Does anybody know if the 2080 ti FTW3 is going to use a custom or reference PCB? I have one preordered because the FTW3 series has always been a custom PCB, but I can't seem to find something that confirms it.

Pretty sure it's going to be custom just like always.

The description says  it's 19-phase VRM design gives it off that it's a custom PCB. I'm excited to see the overclocking potential of it.

Good point, it can't be a reference PCB with 19 power phases where as the reference PCB has 16 power phases.  I too am looking forward to the overclocking ability of this card. :D

It's custom because of it's sheer size.  You can always tell by looking at the rear bracket and see how much higher the PCB rises from it.

    Micron.

Samsung is what the Quadro RTX cards use most likely since Samsung isn't quite into full high volume production.

What generally makes a custom PCB different to the reference PCB? Can it be entirely different parts/designs of the VRM, vram used etc etc or even more?

It is a significant difference, for instance the FTW3 is both a longer and taller card.

So basicly all components would be in different positions from a reference card.

I suppose EVGA chooses what components go onto the board as well? Like vram manufacture, vrm components etc. I don't know if anyone know's exactly what the issue is with the Nvidia 2080 Ti FE cards dying etc but with the FTW3 being custom I suppose there a high possibility to it being immune?

No new tech is immune to issues. While some issues seem to be specific to FE cards. Other problems with other cards are out there as well.

As with any new tech, issues happen. With the price of the cards being so high they are major issues to people who purchased them.

RMA'S, winows updates, driver updates and firmware updates will eventually improve things.

The percentage of people having issues is likely a lot less than internet noise will lead you to believe. Many computer social media sites and such are built for user to user support. It's a good indicator of common issues, and a lot of remedies for issues.

But since people don't generaly run to forums when things are running well, it's not a good indicator of how big the issues are.

I realize no new tech is immune to issues I just meant that what ever is wrong with the FE cards there is the possibility that the custom PCB's don't have the issue because being custom it might not be using the bad part that the FE is. Does anyone know for sure what is wrong with the FE cards? Since there are reports of similar issues with some EVGA cards is it possible the issue is with the GPU/Die itself? I think Nvidia already admitted that some boards were test escapes so more likely an issue with the PCB...

Nvidia, even though they have board partners, dictates the majority of the specs of the card. That is why some cards overclocks are limited by power. Nvidia sets the limits.

Additionally I believe certain componants are also dictated by Nvida, purchased by Nvidia and sold to board partners, but I am not positive on that. It's what I read, and we all know everything on the internet is true.

The only ones that know what is going on would be nvidia and it's board partners and they are more then willing to make things right but I seriously doubt they will air the dirty laundry.

Gamers Nexus has several YouTube videos on looking into the issues and they got a lot of community support from folks loaning them their dead or dying cards.

I recommend watching them cause they got a pretty good handle on what was going on.

Thanks @jinihammerer. I am aware of the Gamer's Nexus videos I just haven't had time to keep up with them. They do probably understand best what's going on so I will go and check those out.
