Hello everyone,

i recently bought an old Xeon 5677 to replace my old I7-920. Unfortunely it didn´t work as expected... The error code "FF" occures, so at the moment i am still using my old I7.

After some research i found out that you have to solder some transistors on the mobo... well... i am not going to do this.. for reasons.
As far as i know it was a post here in this forum that said it will run without problems, maybe i am wrong and it was another forum.

Can someone tell me which Xeons will run straight out of the box? All i want is a sixcore CPU. As far as i know the W3680 (equivalent to the 980x?) will work. Can someone confirm this?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my rough english...

Best regards, Thomas.

According to that list, and note, I'm not (nor are most people on this forum) an eVGA employee and you use/buy this
CPU at your risk....Intel Xeon X5690 CPU should work...

    Hello transdogmifier,

according to that list the X5677 should work to. My hope was that some users here already did an upgrade an can confirm that it worked without any changes on hard and/or software (micro codes for bios, whatever those are)

Yah, found the shorting method here on eVGA forums (remember, this is a user driven forum, not employee driven)

    * Westmere processors are only supported natively on the X58 SLI3, FTW3, and Classified3 Models. A product modification may be needed for older models.

And you do that modification at YOUR risk...

Thank you for that list. Seems that the I7-970+ and extreme editions are the only sixcore CPUs running without changing the mobo.

Thank you for your help, i guess i have to watch some ebay auctions for a cheap i7-970
