    About 95% of my software is paid for. The other five percent is free software (games and helpful tools).

    I also pay for all of the movies (rentals) and TV shows (bought outright) with Apple TV and Google Play Store.

    The times have changed, especially how I own software and pay for media with streaming services in this day and age (besides regular TV media subscriptions).

    Freeware and shareware these days seems to have to much adware and chances for viruses and other forms of infection.  Not my thing.  I will happily pay a developer for a quality product and for the safety to my expensive computing devices.  Plus if I like things why would I not want to support those people to help them make more of what I like?

    Like the last 2 members, if it's software that will make my life easier, and is good quality software and has a reasonable price, I'll purchase. Even some freeware apps i'll at least donate to support as they're is some really good freeware out there(depending on what you're looking at). My 2 cents, if you find yourself using a certain program frequently, and has made your life easier, or projects take a lot less time.....it's likely worth every penny.

    I wanted to use free software, but was disappointed that most of it didn't work and ended up buying some paid tools.

    As several have already posted, I too pay for most software and tend to avoid a lot of freeware in recent years because it's often loaded with garbage. I don't use pirated music or videos either.

    Not to be too obvious, but generally, you get what you pay for. Those that give away something for free they can monetize...of course printer and printer inks are an exception.
