Firstly,  I would like to thank anyone for your response in advance.

I am so behind the times due to personal circumstances in our family.  I am finally doing 2 new builds and 2 old builds from the left overs, not counting my sons alien.  But who wants to count those these days. :D

I will add these to my profile later:

The 2 new builds are as follows:

1.) Me

x299 Dark
7820x
2 - EVGA GTX 1050TI FTW (for the purpose of 6 monitors)
Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB 2666

Mainly for studio work.

2.) Daughter

z370 Classified K
8086K (I know its a cherry picked 8700k. Was on flash sale for the same price as the 8700k)
EVGA GTX 1070SC
Gskill Ripjaw 4 32GB 2666

For gaming

Now for the leftover parts from mine and her systems.  (I did mention its been a while, right - LOL)

3.) Mom

x58 FTW3
i7950 Bloomfield
EVGA GTX470SC x 3 in SLI (maybe the 2 670 in SLI instead??)
Gskill Ripjaw 24gb 1600

This one will be going to my mom for photoshop/video editing + her photo lab and general use

4.) This one is for my daughters boyfriend and he intends to upgrade when he has money

x58 FTW3
i7950 Bloomfield
EVGA GTX670 x2 in SLI (maybe the 470SC x3 in Tri-SLI as he will be upgrading to a 1070 or 1080??)
Gskill Ripjaw 24GB 1600

Eventually it will be used for gaming as he upgrades.

Here is my dilemma; I want my mother to have the better of the two latter systems because she will be using it as is.  My daughters boyfriend will be using this as a stepping stone into a better system.  My daugher is still using this x58 ftw3 system with 24gb and a 1070SC and it still plays games on high specs.  I'm not a gamer, more of an enthusiast... so please forgive my terminology if incorrect.  I just cant get over how well the x58 ftw3's aged.  I was half tempted not to do the upgrade as to how well they run.  But alas, most of the parts are here so its go time.

Anyway, all advice you would be willing to offer on the latter two systems and how I could get the best spec for my mother between the 2 would be fantastic.  I'm about 8 years out of the loop here and trying to catch back up.  Quite honestly, finding information on these older components is becoming daunting after 2 weeks.  Just to be totally honest.  You may have to get used to me cause I kinda like the dynamic of this forum - LOL  If you'll keep me

I'm just trying to give them both a jump start.

Again, I very much appreciate any insight you may have. I'm starting to see double between all 4 of these systems, plus my sons alien upgrade. So 5 total.

On a side note please feel free to critique my new builds as well. Would love to hear what you think.  It all started with, Me wanting the x299 dark with the 7820x (not plunking out for an I9 Pricing is still out of the ballpark and the tech is to new for my taste) Admittedly I didn't see much of a gain between the classified K with the 8086k versus.  So I decided to upgrade my daughter and get both.  As my mother and my daughters boyfriend are in dire need of some form of upgrade.  Yes, that's how bad it is, these would be extreme upgrades for them and a descent jumping point for her and my daughters boyfriend who has never had a desktop and knows very little.  Other than he would love a 1080. That's about his level of understanding...  So he'll need to learn.

I will take pics and upload of the 2 new builds as they come to life.  If anyone cares.  I could even do some testing between the 2 systems, not that it hasn't been done before.

Best regards and thank you for having me.

    Any reason you want 32GB of DDR4 2666? I would go with 16GB or 32GB DRR4 3200.
What power supply you using on her system?

Some power supplies i would recommend
    EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G3, 220-G3-0650-Y1, 80+ GOLD, 650W Fully Modular $79.99 (Newegg)
Seasonic FOCUS Plus Series SSR-650FX 650W 80+ Gold Full Modular $89.99 (Newegg)
Seasonic FOCUS Plus Series SSR-550FX 550W 80+ Gold Full Modular $56.99 after rebate (Newegg)

You could always swap the GTX670 x2 into mom system, after the boyfriend upgrades his system. The GTX670 x2 would give him more time to upgrade and still be able to play newer games.

Hey! Welcome to the forums. I believe I spoke with you on the phone about this. I remember saying to stick with the DDR4 2666 as you would not see much of a benefit on what you are doing. As MSim made some good recommendations on PSUs I would absolutely check out those links.

@ Daniel - Yes you did.  The 2666 is here, so it's too late for that.  This is more about the secondary builds.  Although I certainly would love some enthusiast opinions as time goes on.  The new builds will be a work in progress, this was just the starting point.   This is more about configuring the left over parts for my daughters boyfriend and my mother.

@ Msim  -  For my daughters system I had intended to do 16gb but she was afraid to go from 24-1600 to 16-2666.  To the point she said "Give me chores tell me to scrub the garage I'll clean the whole house for a month".  Which in my opinion, was laughable, I don't pay my kids to do chores.  Lol. My point, for 50.00 if a number is that important to her.  So be it.

I think I may be needing psu's for my mother.  The boyfriend will definitely be needing a psu.

My system has a 1200 modular, my daughter has 850 or 750 modular  and I know we have a 650 in the box downstairs.

Just curious, why do you recommend the 3200 over the 2666?  If I understand correctly, dont I have to set the spds manually which by default over clocks the cpu?  I've never overclocked.  So I'm kinda clueless.  All be it, I've always been tempted.  Hence, doing a build with the dark.  So I certainly wouldn't mind learning.  One of the reasons I came here. :)

As to the boyfriend and the 670s.  Are you under the preconceived notion that I like him!?  He's dating my daughter!  Nah actually I do like him.  He's a good kid.  I'll chew on it...  only problem would be, if I open my mothers system to change out to the 670s,   If she has a software issue, If her internet is down,  Her printer needs ink, if the TV downstairs doesn't work, If her garage door ceases to work....   it will be, because I changed those video cards.  I'll be over fixing this that and the other thing for 6mo.  Nah, I'll be doing that anyway.  Lol

Thank you again for your help, Msim :)

I think PSU should be over 600W for any system.
    And that's hard decision 3200MHz 16GB vs 2666MHz 32GB.

I would choose 32GB. From simple reason, difference between 2666MHz and 3200MHz will not kill me.
But difference between 32GB and 16GB could stop me one day. Both scenarios will not happen 99%.
But if they happen size of memory could be problems for some utra memory demanding game for 3 years.

Some games show a little bit better performance between 2666 and 3200 memory. You might have to manually set the RAM speeds in the bios , it could require you to bump up the RAM voltage a tiny bit from 1.35v to maybe 1.36v, which won't hurt a thing. If you plan on keeping the system for a long time, i think the investment in 3200mhz would be worth it. Nothing wrong with wanting 32GB of RAM. I have 32GB of DDR4 3200 in my Z270 system.
