Maybe once you take the time to simpy look at the product part number sticker on the motherboard to determine which motherboard you own and after you attempt to perform the simple installation procedure, someone will help you with any specific hurdles that you run up against. Until then, I doubt most people will try to guess along side of you about which motherboard you might possibly own, which hurdles you might possibly run into, and whether a GTW 1080 video card even exists.

For an exact answer you need to provide the exact part number and or model of the motherboard.

    Of course, forgive me.

    The board is a 150-HE-E997 rev 1.0 EVGA-X99-FTW
    AMI BIOS 2.05(03/27/2018)
    chipset Intel Haswell-E rev 02 + southbridge X99 rev 05
Currently installed on Windows 10 64bit
    Haswell-E/EP Intel i7-5930k 6Core/12 Thread
    32 GB DDR4
    Samsung SSD
4ea EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti (DVI to Asus VE228)
I want to Install Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS on a separate SSD via USB (as I have done on my 2 other machines with ASUS mobos + have a duplicate board/CPU on my bench unfinished)

To refresh my query - I'm brand new to Linux, long of tooth with Windows since 1989
I'm searching for Install instructions/BIOS dos and don'ts/avoidances as I've heard so much neg feedback about Linux and EVGA boards from my GPUUG teammates that have tried and failed
Surely they just didn't have the right answers, tricks

Just set the Bios to the Optimized Settings and then Disable any Feature that you do not want in your Bios.
Install Only One Clean Drive (No Old Partitions) and Install Ubuntu it is really easy.
I installed mine from an ISO file that I created on a DVD.
Update the OS and then turn off the Computer and add any other Drive that you want to use.

Thanks bcavnaugh do you have your Linux on a EVGA board?
Teammate came over with Ubuntu on a stick - we plugged in a new SSD and the stick, BIOS Boot change restart Load etc. 50 sudo later got er done. Then repeat on next machine.
We are GPU User Group Team SETI and Einstein currently crunchin SETI WOW event - mate is #2 I'm #10
I see you're Folding w EVGA. I used to Rosetta
    =
So anyway, the only other switches I'm aware of are: no fast boot, no secure boot
but Teammate that ran my install ran into problems with His EVGA classy and FTW, so we didn't even try it on mine and its my Big dog running SoG app (windows) at SETI - CUDA90 app Linux smokes these 12-17minute files in 1 minute

Thanks for the tips and confirmations BC - are you crunchin at WOW yerself right now?
Hey whats your fav Bootable util for my Flash?
I checked out your Links thanks
responding to your note about Driver 360 - Driver 396.51 is necessary for our CUDA90-92 app - found in the proprietary drivers (PPA?) and/or other software tab synaptics or software updater thing  my cpu already has open CL stuff so does the Nvidia driver along with the CUDA support
So is the cudatoolkit necessary or will one see the various libraries by Number to choose from with the sudo apt command? Sorry Im such a noob haven't seen anything myself yet.

No I passed on WOW! this year.
On Ubuntu 14.xx I did not see the OpenCL Issue and then I upgraded to 16.04 and then started to see the OpenCL issue.
I never upgraded before and install a Fresh OS but I wanted to see what Issue  would come up.
But I was glad to find this sudo apt install nvidia-cuda-toolkit to fix my issue with Crunching on the GPU under Ubuntu.
I no longer have Folding @ Home Client Installed on my Ubuntu Rigs but this may change now that they all have a 1080 Ti installed.
Also like the idea that Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS come with the NVIDIA Driver 390.48.
https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2842361 for the Tool I use HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool.
I also use only the BOINC Client to run Projects.
Through sometimes over on PG http://prpnet.primegrid.com/ I run from PRPNet Server but they have been off line for a while now.
Pushing hard for a Mega Prime ATM.
Also I am a Noobie when it comes to Linux as well, I am glad we have some great Team Members that are very good when it comes to Linux.
