I know absolutely nothing about this subject. I need to order a new power supply and someone at the Dell forum suggested the one I have pasted below. But at the same time they explained to me that I need 25A or more on the 3.3v and 5v rails as well as 150 combined power on those rails; also need at least 3 amps on the 5bSV rail. This is all greek to me, but on the chart shown for the item below, which this person gave me the link for, it's showing only 20A on the 5V and 24A on the 3.3V. I can't get a response back from that person now so I'm totally lost and I decided to come to the source. Surely someone here can tell me if this unit will work on my PC, or direct me to one that will.

The sooner the better because I have my dining room table covered with my PC tower, taken apart.

    Welcome to the forums.

Some Dell and other pre-built PCs use a proprietary power supply (not a standard power supply)..Your PC takes a standard ATX power supply though.

An EVGA 700W B1 is a standard unit and will be fine..Actually, more than fine because the Dell OE unit is probably a 375W or 425W unit (it will say on the sticker of the power supply, look)..You could get away with a less expensive unit like a 500W or 550W if you wanted to..You can use the Outervision PSU Calculator to estimate you system wattage need.

Thank you SO MUCH for this answer. I went to your link (Outervision PSU Calculator), but someone would have to give me instruction before I could even use it. The most important thing right now is getting a PS ordered and thanks to you, I can do that.

You're welcome..You can take the side panel off of your PC and there should be a sticker on the power supply telling you how many watts it is..I'd get a unit that's just a little bit more powerful (in watts), like at least the next step up (in watts).

Isn't this EVGA 700 B1, 80+ Bronze 700W, 3 Year Warranty, Includes Free Power On Self Tester Power Supply 100-B1-0700-K1 a 700W? The original is 375W. I hope this EVGA is going to be ok because I ordered it.

That will work and be more than good enough, and will provide enough power should you ever add more hardware such as a more powerful video card or whatever..No worries.

You can't connect anything wrong..All connectors will (should) easily fit in only where they're supposed to.

I got my EVGA today and tried to put in it but I can see no way to make it fit in my machine. I can't get the screw holes to line up so that I can secure it.

Here's what happened. I got all the plugs I knew were supposed to be plugged connected. I plugged in the PSU and I had a green power light and 3 green diagnostic lights. So I tried and tried to get the screws in but could not. So I plugged it in again and this time I was back to the blinking amber power light and no diagnostic lights. I unplugged it, checked out all the connectors and plugged it in again. This time I had a steady amber light and the fan was really running and then I started to get a smell. So I unplugged it.

Can you offer any help or advice? Is this 700w unit perhaps too much for my pc, which previously had 375?

My original PSU measures 5.5 x 5.5 x 4. According to Amazon, this EGVA is 5.51 x 5.91 x 3.35 in so seems like it should have fit.

Book says to connect 6/6+2-PIN PCI-E cables to graphics cards. I don't believe I had anything like that plugged in before and can't seem to find a place to plug them. Can you shed any light on this?

Figures they'd (Dell) move the screw holes

Everything else should be the same as far as connectors go..The EVGA unit has all the motherboard and other connectors and they fit OK, right?

The smell is likely from the new PSU running for the first time and will go away, that's common.

No such thing as 'too much power'..A PC will only take what it needs from the PSU.

    Turn the PSU Upside Down.
I do this on all my Dell's when using a Standard ATX Power Supply.

+1 mentioned above by bcavnaugh - fan can point up or down on PSU if there are vents for airflow

Not impossible to install the power cables wrong on the MB ... check carefully

Modular PSU cord sets -- there is a correct way to install them

Make sure power cables are fully seated - sometimes the get tight first

Did your existing GPU have external power cables - look on the edge of card ?
