I'm going to be straight to the point. I've built this PC and had it for about 2 years now and never had a single problem with it. Throughout the 2 years I've always debated whether I should overclock or not. Today I decided I wanted to give it a try. I'm a very careful person and I did everything correctly. I started the core clock at +10 and kept increasing by 10 after every succeful benchmark run. I managed to reach around +110 core clock then my PC randomly shut down. When trying to boot the PC back on nothing would work. No lights no fans, nothing. Completely dead. After 10minutes of being upset thinking my entire PC has broke I managed to find the culprit of why my PC wouldn't boot. I tried testing my PSU with the adapter which came with the EVGA 850 PSU and my PSU fans spinned. After plugging all the wires back into my PSU I forgot to plug the GPU wire and my PC turned on. TLDR; I attempted to overclock then my PC crashed. PC won't boot anymore with GPU plugged into PSU. I'm broke and cannot afford new parts. I'm very upset about this, I really don't know what to do. My PC now works but my GPU doesn't allow my PC to start when plugged into the PSU. Specs: GPU: EVGA 980Ti PSU: EVGA Supernova 850

Best thing to do would be to test the card in another pc.

Yep, you should test the card in another PC as stated above, or take it to a PC repair shop for them to test it. So, you're running your PC now using onboard/CPU graphics?..What CPU and mobo do you have?..It's helpful and necessary to list your PC hardware. If you have onboard/CPU graphics to use, take the 980 Ti out of your PC.

When the GPU isn't installed now windows loads but i encounter a whole new problem. after about 10 seconds i hear the noise as if i just put in a new usb device and then my mouse clicks no longer register yet my cursor itself actually moves. same for keyboard, some keys work but the windows button doesn't. what the hell is happening with my pc?

Very sorry. Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.00GHz MSI Z170A GAMING M5 (MS-7977) (U3E1) I managed to fix the mouse and keyboard problem by going into safe mode removing all my GPU drivers along with my Logitech software. Restarted now I can use my mouse and keyboard. I put my old GPU currently installing the latest driver for it. I attempted to put my 980ti in my old PC but nothing works. It is a very old prebuilt PC so I don't think i have the right psu cables to use for it anyway because the psu isnt modular. just installed my old GPU - 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (Gigabyte). Currently typing this out with it installed, so does this mean the 980Ti is actually shot?

OK, cool..That was going to be my next suggestion: To uninstall the NVIDIA drivers since you removed the card and they're no longer needed..Sounds like all your problems are solved except for the bad 980 Ti. Yes the 980 Ti is bad..I suppose it's out of warranty, huh?

He said he has an evga psu. That would be my culprot right there. :( But, it sounds like the OS crashed, and you are having a few different issues: 1. OS may be hosed because of the crash. 2. The PSU is bad. 3. The GPU is bad (since you tried this in another system and it didnt work, I would say yes, its bad). 4. Both the PSU and the GPU are bad, and the crash hosed your os. Take the OC off your cpu, and any memory, and see if the system is stable with the old card by playing demanding games. If it is, it seems your system is stable now. I would then rma the psu and the gpu. If its still not stable, you probably need to redo the os (system crashes can mess up the kernel, or whatever software was running at the time, and an os reinstall is the only thing to get it back to being stable again).

Why would the EVGA PSU be your culprit? I'm pretty sure they are solid.

That's reason why I don't feel so happy as other people to push hardware to maximum. I like to OC, but safe OC. Reason is I don't want to be in your situation and to wait weeks before save money for other component. I don't like to every freeze, every driver crash, every reboot, make me nervous is is instability of OC or something died. Reason is simply, price of hardware we use.

The thing is I did it the safest and the most slowest way possible. I spent hours adding +10 after every benchmark playthrough on the core clock. I seriously don't understand why it would kill my gpu.

Go check out the psu section. And use google. Not the best psu's on the block. His problem sounds like mine when my evga psu went out on me, and it was both the psu and the video card that went out at the same time. But it was a LONG time before we saw that the psu was going drastically low on the 3.3 rail.

Samzon How can i test my psu?
You can probably see some voltages shown somewhere in the BIOS (monitoring section), but those will be idle/no-load voltages..You can use software such as MSI Command Center which I think will log min/max voltages and pop up an on-screen warning when voltages are out of spec. (you can specify) like Asus AI Suite..There's AIDA64 Extreme (30-day Free Trial) which is a great utility..There's other utilities too. The most accurate way though would be testing using a digital voltmeter as described in the links below along with the min/max voltage specs..Test under load while running a benchmark/load test..You can pick up an el-cheapo multimeter for around 10 - 15 bucks (Auto parts store, Walmart, Harbor Freight, many places) that will be good enough for the job..You can backprobe connectors with a digital multimeter that are connected to something, such as the mobo 24-pin connector. How do I test my power supply? (Advanced Voltage Testing) Using a multi-meter to check voltages

Your R33 Inductor probably burned out. My 980ti Hybrid fried like many other 980s. Good luck with RMA EVGA will send you another lemon EVGA video card as replacement like they will with mine. My video card is currently in shipment to them. EVGA makes garbage video cards nowdays with substandard R33 inductors. They are frying left and right just read posts in these forums.
