Few months ago GPU prices started going down thanks to the mine craze slowing down so I decided to purchased an EVGA 1080 Ti FTW2 which was more than I wanted to pay for but I was tired of waiting and went for it after all it looked like Nvidia was not releasing a new GPU any time soon and if it did it was going to be a side update rather than a full update and most likely really expensive. Now with the new 2080's announced that seems to be the case however my 4 month old $750 1080 Ti is now going for around $600 on Amazon and $480ish on ebay, That's a HUGE PRICE DROP but what really bothers me is Nvidia's shady manipulation, They depleted and then saturated the market in part thanks to the miners, sold 2yold cards at MSRP, is now calling Pascal obsolete while stating its 6x slower and that 1 2080 is equal to 10 1080Ti seriously Nvidia? seriously!?!?

What you're doing is trying to blame NVIDIA's supply chain for bitminer demand over which they have no control. Remember that Turing which is the new RTX series GPUs have been a work in progress for 10 years.

They're stating all the improvements are in computation of ray tracing. We never saw examples of regular non-raytracing performance examples in the keynote. They never clarified that this stuff just works and doesn't need to be implemented. They're moving the goalposts and presenting the best face to the audience, when they totally ignore how it plays on the thousands of existing games. It's important to note what they are saying just as much as it's important to make note of just what they're not talking about. You're currently getting the marketing pitch, not examples of the real life performance in existing non-RTX games yet. I donno about you, but I don't own any RTX enabled games that I know about so what they presented has zero relevance to my current Steam library.

When new technology is announced, old technology loses it's value. This has been the case since the beginning of history. Nothing shady about it.

Remember when Microsoft's DX12 came out. It took MONTHS before game developers adopted it and implemented it. NVIDIA has formed partnerships with several gaming companies to help them make ray tracing based gaming possible.

Upgrading to a new RTX card is probably something you should do only if your present card is not giving you enough performance. If you're happy with your present card then keep it.

Those are all new titles that are implementing DXR. Says nothing about existing games.

I just care about how well it will do at folding and crunching BOINC tasks. If a 2070 is 5x better than a 1080, and better than a Titan Xp, I'll pick up a couple. I am surprised they went with 2080 and not 1180, they went 660ti, 780Ti, 980Ti, 1080Ti is not 1180ti next? Guess not. Timing is everything, buy too soon, buy too late, sometimes you just have to wait.

I think it would be best to just close threads whining about the lack of numbers for the time being, Nvidia has made it clear it isn't providing numbers because the reviewer community does it better.

Yeah they should have dropped the GTX model reference since they dropped GTX. It doesn't make any sense.

7nm next year or at least very soon. Until then I agree w/Hardware unboxed said today....this thing will likely have average gains for current-gen games and absolutely not worth the cost. Enjoy your TI.

The best thing I can think of about all of this is cheap 1080-series cards for everyone. I'm going to like those 1080ti's at around $250-300 used.

They just moved all the Other Threads under EVGA GeForce 20 Series This Thread well end up there as well. IMO they should all be moved under the Whining Area or at least the General Hardware or Computer Industry News Areas. Unless of course they are about the EVGA Models.

moving to General Discussion this thread is not about any specific hardware Its a poorly worded dissertation on the economic cycle of accelerated depreciation of hardware that falls out of demand as it become obsolete & less desirable Happens every time something Newer & Faster comes to market

Your used old high end card isn't worth as much as a new high end card of a new generation. I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

To the OP I suggest reviewing your price match guarantee from whomever you bought the card from. I once saved $200.00 on a Blu-ray player in a similar scenario from Best Buy.

Most price match guarantees are a few days, maybe 14-30 days. I have never heard of 4 months... that is an extreme reach, but worth a shot.
