Hi All,

Transitioning my way over to Win10 from Win7. I installed Win10 via USB to a brand new drive (made sure to disconnect ALL other drives first, yes), updated, etc. worked great. Now, for whatever reason, Win10 is not detecting my CPU OC. Boot up into Win7, OC shows perfectly fine.

Hardware plan set to High Performance with Min/Max CPU Speed both at 100%, no BIOS settings changed, etc.

And uh, got some interesting results in Task Manager after turning Speedstep off in BIOS LOL  you could say I'm coming for Kingpin's spot. https://imgur.com/a/W225xNr

CPU OC SHOULD BE: 4.42GHz (shows correctly in Win7 and USED TO in Win10)
Currently shows: 4.42GHz in Win7 but 3.50GHz in Win10 (and it fluctuates +- 0.2GHz)

I'm stuck.

Looked to see what updates had been recently installed. The culprit: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4100347/intel-microcode-updates-for-windows-10-version-1803-and-windows-server

As soon as I uninstalled it and restarted PC, CPU-Z shows correct OC and task manager shows 4.38 rather than 3.50

The problem is that that update is also a Spectre patch so...hm.

In Win10 Pro and Enterpise, I think you can still defer updates for up to 365 days, and in Win10 Home you cannot at all.

With all Win10 editions you can hide updates indefinately from Windows Update with the 'Show or Hide Updates Tool' from Micro$oft so that updates do not get installed, as detailed here in one of my posts.

In a nutshell:
- Grab the Show or Hide Updates Tool from Micro$oft (wushowhide.diagcab).
- Enable 'Metered Connection' in the Properties for your internet connection.
- Run the Show or Hide Updates Tool BEFORE running the normal Windows Update.
- Choose which update(s) to hide from the normal Windows Update.
- Then run the normal Windows Update to get Critical, Security, Driver, and other updates you may need/want.

You can schedule the Show or Hide Updates Tool through Task Scheduler to run on a schedule you want (every day at log on, for example).

You can un-hide hidden updates at any time.

The moment that you disable 'Metered Connection' for your internet connection, Windows Update will resume auto-downloading and updating again.

I like to run the Show or Hide Updates Tool to see what updates are available and would normally be installed by Windows Update, then search to see if people are having issues with a particular update or updates before I go ahead and allow Windows Update to download and install it/them, or if I think I should hide it/them instead.

Just a little FYI here for you that can help you to manage Windows Update.

Thanks, I'll check that out. Couldn't find much on this one particular update. It's a microcode update but I also haven't updated BIOS because of the whole fiasco where people were having issues with it so maybe that's why? Not sure, couldn't tell ya lol.
