For some reason I can't seem to get any GPU tasks from any of my projects. From what I can tell GPU Grid and Collatz have run into technical issues so I tried Prime Grid. No luck at all. So now I am wondering if there isn't something wrong on my end. I have updated to the latest version of Boinc and still have the config set up to allow GPU's. Am I missing something or has something changed while I was away?

Did you install the C++ Runtimes?
You need both the X64 and X86(32Bit) Versions
Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013
Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Windows XP

GPU Grid it is very hard to get GPU Tasks so you should go with Collatz till you have them running.
If this is an Upgrade or Fresh Install of Windows 10 you will need to uninstall the Current NVIDIA Drivers and Software.
Run DDU in Safe Mode and then install Driver 390.65 or 391.35 (Some of the Newer Drivers Do Not Run BOINC and Folding Tasks (WU)
You should do this with your Network Cable Unplugged.

Still running Win 8.1. Nothing has changed in my system from when I last ran Boinc stuff about a year ago. I will look into the driver issue and see if that is the problem.

Then you do have the "C++ Runtimes?" Installed?
Run GPU-Z and make sure all 4 Boxes are checked at the Bottom

Re: Help with GPU 2018/08/13 14:42:15 (permalink)
I still have the Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 already installed. I was running the latest Nvidia drivers so I'm hoping that is the issue. Downloading 391.35 now.

Going to get GPU-Z again and run it. Will post an update when that is done.

Update: Ran GPU-Z and the Cuda box is unchecked. Guessing that is the driver issue you mentioned?

Yep! Time for DDU.
We can thank Microsoft for this.

OK, I did the DDU and a clean install of both 390.65 and 391.35. Neither one worked. I still get the missing check mark for Cuda in GPU-Z. Any more ideas?

Is this a New Card?
Have you ran any benchmarks to test the card out?
Did you Remove the NVIDIA Stuff from Windows "Programs and Features" this should be done first.
Then Use DDU and tell it to reboot in Safe Mode.
Run DDU and remove and Restart your Computer and then Install Only the Graphics Driver and PhysX Driver.
Remember to Run as Administrator on all of the Processes.
Is your Card installed in the X16 PCIe Slot next to the CPU Socket?
x8 1.1 seems odd.
Are you running 64 Bit or 32 Bit OS of Window 8.1?
What CPU and Motherboard is this?
If it has it is the Motherboard Video Disabled?

Looking now at https://sourceforge.net/projects/cuda-z/files/cuda-z/0.10/CUDA-Z-0.10.251-64bit.exe/download

Above what most user do I also delete the below Keys after I remove the Drivers and Run DDU in Safe Mode. (No Network)
I do not restart after Running DDU I Delete the Below Keys and then Restart, it will Error on them but that is ok it will still delete the card Info.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Video
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Video

Not a new card. I have been running it since Feb. of 2017.
Yes, removed Nvidia files from programs and features.
Yes, restarted in safe mode and removed the network cable, then ran DDU.
Installed graphics and physx only.
Yes, Admin.
64 bit Win 8.1
Yes in first slot. However there is an old GTX 680, in the second slot, I used to run secondary projects. Suspect the motherboard is splitting the x16 for this.
Asus P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W
Yes, video on motherboard is disabled.

Re: Help with GPU 2018/08/15 12:22:08 (permalink)
There are a few things that could cause gpu-z not to show cuda is supported...

#1 The cuda gpus setting inside the nvidia control panel is set to none instead of all. Changing the setting to none then clicking apply, and changing the setting back to all then clicking apply may resolve the issue for you, so make sure you give that a try as well.

#2 GPU-Z may not be reading it correctly. Try a older version of gpu-z.

#3 Your os has a problem. Doing a clean install of the os will fix the issue.

Run the X64 Bit Version, both the BOINC Projects run an x64 Bit App.
Also some Tasks run OpenCL as well as CUDA.
You can download https://compubench.com/windows-download/compubench/ to test out OpenCL
CompuBench-CL-Desktop-Edition-1.5.8-x64.exe the small file (Plus 159MB when you run it) and the Desktop Version is like 188MB. Got to Love that T-Rex
Collatz Conjecture also run OpenCL so is still think you need to reinstall the C++ RunTimes Both X64 and X86
Windows applications require the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2017 .
Listed under "Other Tools and Frameworks" Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2017
Click X64 then the Download Button and then Click X86 and then the Download Button to get both Versions.
If you can Disable or Remove the GTX 680 for Testing. Mixing that Old of a GPU maybe also be an issue.
And Click on Performance.

If you use BAM! you may want to check to make sure you are allowing NVIDIA GPU on your Program Settings.
As

Check your Project Settings as well.
https://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/prefs.php?subset=project

I am not seeing any Tasks that have Failed or download failed on your Host.
https://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/results.php?hostid=142604

Check the Client Software as well.

What is the BOINC Manager Log showing?

Don't you need C++ 10, 13 and 15 both 32 and 64bit? You would think the newest one covers it, but no, thats too easy.

If more than one GPU is there a setting in a config file to use all GPUs?

Yes (Both 32Bit and 64Bit) As Posted on their Website https://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/ main page, changed with last App Version.
2017 also covers all versions below for the Runtimes down to 2008 but not the older 2006 and before.
 "If more than one GPU is there a setting in a config file to use all GPUs?" Yes I do recall someone saying Mixing Generations can cause needed a setting somewhere but do not recall where.

Nice Little Benchmark Tool
The Desktop Version allows you to Select OpenCL or CUDA for Benchmarking.

@Khalifrio See if you can run Enigma@Home
This Project runs Cuda/Fermi

The last item you can check or do is go to the Folder C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\OpenCL\ and copy to two files to the C:\WINDOWS\System32\ AND the C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\ folder you will have to do this a an admin.

The Files are OpenCL.dll and OpenCL64.dll

Any Updates Khalifrio?

Nothing seems to fix the issue. I tried Enigma and got nothing.

I am wondering if I don't need to totally remove Boinc and all the associated files and start over from scratch. I can't find anything that is wrong in the config files. Its like something didn't update right from around when I took a break.

At this point I'm going to keep on with just CPU tasks until the Seti event is over and then shut it all down to remove the old GTX 680 and do a fresh install of Boinc.

Re: Help with GPU 2018/08/17 12:19:42 (permalink)
First move your app_config.xml from Collatz and then in the BOINC Client Reset the Project.
This well clear all the Files from the Folder, all but the app_config.xml file that is.
Restart your computer and test with Collatz.

As far as my cc_config.xml file the below is all I have in it; Info Link
Located: ProgramData\BOINC\

<cc_config>
 <options>
 <report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately>
 </options>
</cc_config>

You could add <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>

<cc_config>
 <options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
 <report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately>
 </options>
</cc_config>

If 1, use all GPUs (otherwise only the most capable ones are used). Requires a client restart.

You are running on CPU Seti Task and No GPU Correct?
If so you really need your GPU to run Seti to really get any Points.
Restarting your PC is not going to make any difference on Seti.

Are you using BAM! to manage your BOINC Projects?

What does your event log say from a clean startup of BOINC? In another thread you mentioned upgraded your version of BOINC. Did you install it as a service by chance?

Frankly I have put solving this on hold atm. Going to be busy with doctor and hospital visits for the next week or so.

To catch up on questions being asked.

No I did not install Boinc as a service.
My config uses those two entries.
My Collatz folder is empty. No XML files or any files for that mater. Yes, I did reset Collatz with no luck.
No I do not use BAM.

Which video card did you download and install the nvidia drivers last for? I have had issues where if I installed one and then a different one for a different generation card, the better card would have issues and vice versa. Had to play with them a bit. Now I try not to mix cards because of all the random headaches that came with it. You may want to pull one card and see if it detects and crunches ok. Then swap and do the same. Then put them back and tweak from there. Just grasping at options right now as the driver install order is the only thing I can think of causing the conflict.

This is weird. We had a heck of a lightning storm Friday night. It knocked out our internet for the weekend. Net came back up early Monday morning. I rebooted the system, after setting up the modem and letting it go through its restart sequence, and now I can run OpenCL GPU tasks. The odd part is I have rebooted the system dozens of times since I noticed I had a crunching GPU problem. I had also rebooted the modem at least twice in that time. I don't think the modem had anything to do with it but figured I would toss it out there as new info.

Now to figure out the Cuda issue.... sigh...

I restart my Internet Modem as lease once ever three or four weeks to include all my Routers and Switches.

I tend to do it once a month, if not more often if needed. I don't see what the modem had anything to do with it since it had been reset at least twice since this GPU thing came up. Guess its one of those things I won't worry too much about and just be happy my GPU is working for OpenCL.

I’d echo cuarc’s suggestion above...remove the 680 and then do a fresh install of the latest drivers from nvidia’s website. Not sure if the mix of GPUs would cause the issue, but would just try to break it down to the basic setup and go from there.
