It's been a while since I've updated you all as to what's going on in my life on this side of the Folding world, and it's been absolutely crazy.

First off, and the most minor of it - Last month, a change was made to how Stanford presents the stats flat files. This caused my system to burp a little bit and I lost some data, but not much.  Basically, it exposed a touch of over active error checking I had built in that triggered an un-needed clean up that prevented one file from being saved for a couple of days.
They also changed the internal time-stamp to Central time so the system was saving to file names that were 2 hours off. No major biggie, just a little tweak and I'm back to saving the hourly stats.

The BIGGIE - We're moving, suddenly and expensively. My wife's health has been in slow decline due to chronic illnesses related to soft tissue inflammation that we now believe is due to long term exposure to an environmental contaminant that's native to where we live, and it's finally reached the point that we no longer have a choice and we're moving to where she last felt healthy: St Augustine, Florida.

As such, I'm finishing my last week of worth and we're hitting the road in 10 days.
This means a couple of things - I'll be going offline for a while as our internet access on the other side of the trip is totally up in the air. I won't have the ability to run the stats collection 24/7 until we get set up on that side, but I will be trying to get my laptop set up at least once a day to grab a few hours of stats at each hotel stay on the way, so it won't be a complete loss of data. I mostly bring this up in case there are any issues with stats that anyone needs me to do spot checking on as I've done from time to time.

Secondly, it means that we're going to be hurting financially for a little while, so I may not be able to get back up and folding for a bit - I will try to get my boxes set up in time to be folding in August, but my work folders that I've been allowed to run all hours of the day are being shut down on Friday afternoon. On the OTHER hand, we're moving to an area where the cost of electricity is a fraction of what we pay here in Maine.

So, I guess that's the update - We're stressed between wrapping up our local affairs and packing, and next week will be 100% focus on the finish/starting to load the uhaul, but I'll try to check in to answer any questions you all may have.

I'll talk to you later! Take care of each other!

Got to take care of the ones that take care of us. I hope you like it as well Droug. Hope everything goes smoothly on the move and after. Take care buddy!

We have landed in St. Augustine after a week of STUFF going wrong. We arrived on Tuesday, VERY early am after a 10+ hour leg of the journey and promptly crashed out in the crappiest hotel I have ever experienced. Thankfully the temp rental we're in now is immaculate in comparison.

Now the difficult parts begin after we finish our recovery - Long term rental, job, getting our stuff out of storage . . . The adventure never ends!

Still in our short term rental, got a couple of long term rentals picked out and we're running applications - I've been throwing my resume around like mad, feeling a little bit of imposter syndrome as I'm applying for some positions that I KNOW I'm qualified for, but the pay grades are . . . Well, I haven't seen that offer tossed in my direction like EVER . . . So, some wood knocking and fingers crossing would be awesome.

Also, we're fundraising through my wife's tumblr to try to defray some of the unexpected things that have come at us, so if you'd like to assist in that end, message me and I'll link to the post so it can be shared and donated to (Keeping the link off this in case it steps on the toes of the rules).

Thank you all for the help and well wishes! We're personally doing wonderfully - Lots of sun and relaxing now that the missus is feeling better, tho we did have one day of pain due to a crap meal at a chain eatery  . . . Blaming the ammt of MSG in their food. It was BAD. Otherwise? We're all doing great! Taking the kids to the beach again tomorrow for further celebration and well deserved relaxation.

Re: The Pimp's going mobile! 2018/08/17 20:59:44 (permalink)
And HERE is all the news that isn't fit to print!

It took us a little while, but we finally found a long term rental just to the northwest of St Augustine proper - We're still within the city limits, but in a suburb/development that's a quiet little slice close enough to nature that we can still hear all the wildlife, but not have to fight every other step to not lose a full pint of blood to the mosquitoes. We just got our Uhaul Uboxes to start unloading earlier today, but we're not rushing to kill ourselves. BUT, getting a full 2 out of the five unloaded with at least another half? Not too shabby.

My wife is definitely improving already, tho she has a LONG way to go before she's 100%. But the improvement is giving us both a LOT of hope.

I've been flinging my resume at any job listing I can find that sits still longer than 5 minutes, gotten a few nibbles of interest, but nothing solid yet. I've gotten a few headhunters flinging my name around too, and given that my last 3 jobs were done through the agencies, I have a feeling that might be how it goes this time as well, but I'm not going to stop digging.  You don't get anything worth while by sitting on your own thumbs.

The kids have been having a blast through the adventure, even with the stresses. They love the ocean and getting to visit it on the regular has been a wonderful benefit.  I'm also having a blast through the stress, as much as I don't want to admit it. *Grins* Guess I found a bit of a taste for adventure after all.

Oh, and I have found my pc's in the Uhaul mess, so I'll be getting back online this week and trying to kick my production for the month out soon!

Anyway, I'm sore, tired and stanky, so it's off to the shower, downing some pain meds then heading to sleep on our honest to goodness REAL MATRESS for the first time in weeks. My back is about to have a treat.

Take care, guys and gals, and I'll try to pop back in with more updates soon.

We just got the 5 Uhaul Uboxes unloaded - the garage is now full of the remains, plus our living area is chock full of boxed goods. Tomorrow will be scheduling the pickup of the pods, moving the remaining big furniture into place, getting the trash separated for pickup on Friday and FINALLY getting to start to arrange my new nerd space for maximum nerditude.

I'm HOPING I'll be able to get the wires run and network setup finished in time to get my folding for the month, but I have been doing a good job of keeping the stats losses down to the bare minimum.

On that note, it's time to get my sore self off to bed and try to be up at a reasonably NORMAL time for once since we started this adventure  . . .

    Small victories keep piling up!

Got the network set up, ran a network cable from a leftover length I had from an old spool that ended up being JUST the length I needed - Got it terminated correctly the FIRST try . . . Kids can now enjoy their saved cartoons again!

This also means one of my two folding boxen is live and well. I need to pull the 2nd out, give the water loop a complete once over checking for unexpected passengers in the tubes, but I'm not expecting anything - I ran distilled with biocide and a kill coil. That sucker was about as sterile as you can get without going medical supplies level for the fluids. I hope to have it back up by tomorrow evening or Monday evening at the latest.

I also just received my birth certificate from the town I was born so I can get my new driver's license. Turns out, under the post 9/11 Real ID act, my OLD copy of my Birth Certificate wasn't 'good enough'.  *shrugs* But that will also be knocked down and dealt with.

Oh, and getting out from under the $11 'rental fee' of Xfinity's modem felt good. Our modem synced right up and Xfinity activated it with no issues, so I'm back in 100% control of our networking instead of letting them do it.

Hmmm, what else? I think that's pretty much it at this point. Still digging out from a mountain of boxes (MUCH smaller mountain now, AND Uhaul took their pods/boxes away on Friday, so the driveway is OURS again!) and washing a LOT of clothes that were in storage and are currently saturated in the allergens that knocked the missus around.  So, there's still MUCH to be done, but it's a DEFINABLE amount!

Good stuff D! No easy thing moving your family on your own without a company paying for it. Keep putting those small victories in your pocket.

Hooray!! For small victories.  Glad everything went smoothly with getting your internet up and running, Comcast can be a nightmare to deal with.  Good luck with all that laundry (I hate doing laundry), but knowing it'll help the misses, it'll all be worth it!  Thanks for keeping us posted.
