Hello josh256 and welcome to the EVGA forums! The X99 platform did not have support for E5-2680 but does support E5-2695 V3 and although the CPU does support ECC the motherboard does not. The BIOS version depends on when that motherboard shipped and if they are 2nd hand they may or may not be flashed with the latest version but if the BIOS version is older than the release date of a supported CPU according to our QVL https://www.evga.com/support/motherboard/ then you will need an older process but we can also ship you an updated BIOS chip you will just need to register the boards on our website.

To be specific, this is Broadwell -E support on the X99 such as 6950X  6900K 6850K 6800K none which support ECC memory (v 2.01). Since you are new to the forums, you will not be able to post any links until you have made a minimum of 30 posts or more.

With an updated BIOS the 2680 v4 should work, however the boards likely won't boot with ECC memory installed. To the best of my knowledge, EVGA hasn't included ECC support since their old dual socket Classified SR-2. Should they indeed boot, there won't be any way to turn on ECC.

I confirmed with our product management that even the latest BIOS available on our website does not have support for 2680 v4 or ECC memory. 

RE: ECC RAM
I won't bother with ECC RAM then, thanks! I've never used a desktop board with a Xeon before and wasn't aware it was different from workstation boards on the RAM front.
 
RE: v4/Broadwell
I have both v3 and v4 XEONs and will report back. I suspect the V4 may work for the following reasons:
 
1) There are many firmware updates for multiple EVGA X99 boards clearly stating Broadwell support added. To be clear - EVGA has clearly commented Broadwell support in the BIOS updates/comments fields
2) I understand it is not certified and it isn't listed in the HQL/specs however nearly all 2011-3 boards were released prior to Broadwell and listed Haswell/Xeon V3 in HQL. Broadwell/Xeon v4 came out a year after this board and that brings us back to #1 respectively
3) If it works I think I'm clearly outside of support as the messaging seems to be "support added in BIOS updates but not certified" however there are EVGA posts and user posts confirming Broadwell/Xeon v4 working after bios updates on X99 boards (both Micro2 and Classified)

I also build a similar system for a friend of mine using the Xeon e5-2699 v4, 22 cores, 44 threads, and 50MB L3 cache."
