This is a figurative question...

Lets just assume for this situation below that the 1180 is available for $650.00 and the 1170 is available for $550.00

Lets also assume that the 1180 is 50% faster than the 1080
Lets also assume that the 1170 is 25% faster than the 1080

If you have a 1080 that falls within the 90 day step up window.  Could you trade your gtx 1080 for an 1170 and pay the difference?  Or do you have to go for the "80" step-up?  (trading apple to apple)

Thanks!

Hello, while I do not have any information on future EVGA or Nvidia products and I would not know about their Step-Up availability (if at all), I can speak to how Step-Up works now. If you had a GTX 1060 card, as an example, you would be able to upgrade to a GTX 1070, 1070 Ti or a GTX 1080 TI (based on our current list). In general you can upgrade to any card on the Step-Up list that is better performance than the card that you currently have. As you go higher in model, the price will increase and the price difference, that you pay, will increase.

Yes, in therory as long as that theoretical GPU was not a step in itself

    Graphics Cards

    • EVGA will only release reference versions of its products, NVIDIA reference spec and clock, to the Step-Up program.
    • Step-Up is limited to pre-approved graphics cards only and can only be used for exchange to a different and higher performing GPU.
    • Products known to have a limited availability will not be made available to the Step-Up program. (Limited availability determined by EVGA.)
    • Customers who received their EVGA graphics card as part of a complete computer system are not eligible - except for those listed on our approved system vendor list.

So can you step up a 980 to a 1070 right now? (Assuming in this world someone had a 980 that was purchased and still fell within the 90 day step up period).

ok - sorry I read your posts more thorough and figured out the answer to the question.  Thanks

If a customer purchased a brand new GTX 980, now, and they had the invoice from the authorized retailer to show it (odd but possible), then yes they could do a Step-Up to a GTX 1070 card. They would also have the option of the GTX 1070 Ti or GTX 1080 Ti.
