Guys, im having an issue for a long time, but only recently ive come to realize that the mobo might be it. I have a very good liquid cooler that I use in 2 machines. H100i v2. On my second machine, the Mobo and the CPU hardly go over 50C on full load for days on end. The evga machine reached 94C on the CPU.. This weekend I just re applied the thermopaste again, and I managed to get it down by 20C roughly. But From the application on the image i attached, it tells me that the MOBO is reaching almost 100C again. Anyone has an idea of how I can approach this ? Al

It's possible that 94C reading is from the boards sensor. You could install the Eleet software to confirm/compare to be sure. > https://www.evga.com/eleet/If it is the motherboard sensor, it could be reading incorrectly or depending on where it's located, and due to you having such high CPU core & package temps, that it's just that high. But I'd say it's doubtful. I've never seen motherboard temps over mid 30C's.

bdary, thanks for the quick reply, super appreciated. I have no doubt the temp is super high, the CPU is reaching high temperatures all the time (3x times now) a couple of days (or a week max) after I re applied the paste. What you mention about boards being 30C +- checks with my other machine. Everything there stays around that temp, mobo and cpu included. Maybe Im missing something, like a back plate radiator on the installation of my x79, or perhaps its just time to think about retiring it ?

You're welcome, happy to help... I just checked my X79 Dark's motherboard temp. It's 28C. Is your H100i mounted in the top of your case and is it set up to exhaust the air or as an intake? If it's bringing air in through the rad down into your case over the board, that could increase the temps some, but 94C is way out of whack. As far as any kind of "back plate radiator" you mention, there's nothing like that I'm aware of...

Well, thanks for that. I think it took me some time to realize the temp was that high. So i might have fried something up.. As for the h100, fans are exhausting hot air out of the case thru the rad. Its mounted on top of the case yes. Fans are 2x Noctua NF-F12 PWM if memory serves me well.

Time to inspect the thermal paste/pads on the motherboard.

Next thing to try which is more a pain in the rear is to swap coolers if possible. Or if you have an old air cooler lying around try that to see if the issue is the cooler.

Are you asking about the Temp of only the MB chipset (Southbridge) temps or the 12 Phase PWM heat sink ? Your PC need airflow over the MB heat sinks, they may need a refresh of thermal material under the MB heat sinks, unless they are just loose What Voltage are you using ? Could be leakage current has increased on that MB EVGA X79 Dark EVGA X79 Dark P/N: 150-SE-E789-RX

@rJohnson11 - Thanks for helping out. I dont think the liquid cooler is the issue. Its keeping the temperature down by 20C. I have a couple of fans in the front of the case blowing air in, and 3 fans blowing air out. 1 in the back and 2 up top, thru the radiator. Still the mobo temp is goes nuts. I'll check if there is any place on the board that I need to reapply thermo paste. @CoolGTX - Thanks for the hand, I didnt touch the voltages. They should be at fabric default. Im attaching an screen grab maybe im missing something. Thanks a lot guys, A

I still have the same issue at the moment. Cool GTX - "Are you asking about the Temp of only the MB chipset (Southbridge) temps or the 12 Phase PWM heat sink ?" Im talking about the Motherboard. On the first image I posted its clear only the MB is heating up. Can someone point me to that "12 phase PWM" on the motherboard ?

Thanks a lot Sajin for the quick reply! I have the massive original heatsink there. I dont understand why it would be heating so much now. Granted the board is quite old now. Im considering changing it atm. Thanks
