Looks more like a Coffee Lake LGA1151 refresh rather than LGA 2066.

That's because it is LGA 1151.

Again, a lot of this is rumors put together by a few sources that include WCCFTech... so as usual please take them with extreme caution.

    Ouch.. shots fired?

Will be good to see intel move 8 core down to the consumer platforms.

I've been patiently waiting for an Intel 8 core cpu for the mainstream platform, this possibly coming to fruition has me exciting on possibly upgrading my rig. If the 5.5 ghz clock holds to be true, not sure if my 240mm aio cooler will be up to the task.

Intel is trying to push 8 core CPUs to compete with AMD's new CPUs. AMD is aware of this and they (AMD) are developing even higher core CPUs.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

Intel recently removed the all-core turbo spec from official listings, now only max single core turbo and base clock.

Usually, it's the base frequency that determines which TDP rating an SKU falls into. Sometimes an SKU is deliberately put into higher TDP ratings to ensure OEM cooling companies don't cheap out on heatsinks.

But single core turbo doesn't have much TDP impact on the total because the other cores are either idle or straight up downclocked. Like that recent mobile quad-core rated at 15W TDP, base clock 2.0GHz with Turboboost to 4.5GHz-- for some reason, those hyping the processor convinced themselves 4.5GHz was all-core.

If single core took up all the TDP with other cores off, four of them means a 4.5GHz quad-core at 60W or more given voltage adjustments. That's 7600K territory at 14nm. People reacted to a big number; likewise, this 8-core at 5.5GHz isn't an all-core Turboboost. One could hypothesize overclocking all cores to 5.5GHz could be possible, but I'll wait for Siliconlottery's assessment.

As for your heatsink/cooling, TDP ratings encompass multiple SKUs regardless of specs, this is so OEMs don't have to change the cooler for every CPU. In other words, if Intel puts 9900K in 95W TDP, then any cooler ever made in the last decade for 95W TDP will work. That's the whole idea of TDP, it's a ratings category, it doesn't represent actual wattage.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

I will wait until we see the announcement. Really though I am excited to see this battle between AMD and Intel heat up. It seems likely that PC’s are going to get a massive increase in power before it’s over

Still waiting for game developers to actually use 4 cores.

Give it time, 3-6 years.  Developers tailor games to hardware most people have in order to net the most sales and up to 4-thread SKUs have been dominant for over a decade.  The masses are the key: Progress is dependent on whatever they adopt and thus far these folks typically get systems with Core i3 w/HT or less.  These folks are penny-pinchers, they aren't going to spend more because it would benefit us.  Once those core/thread counts are raised, develops will take notice and plan ahead, but it will still be years away.  If you look at Intel's price list pdf, 2c-2t still exist between $42-52 MSRP, 2c-4t from $64-117.  Those thread and core count have to double or even quadruple to have an impact on future software; guess what that means for core/thread counts at the $200-600 range that most of us get?

    +1

Most non-professional software does an Extremely poor job of using more than 2 physical cores

Professional software (read that as Expensive, measured in thousands & 10s of thousands of $$$$ - per user) is not really an option for causal use, not cost effective
