HeavyHemi: Sorry I didn't respond to you post, just trying to visualize how this thing would work. I want to EXPAND my desk top, all three different. I know it can be done, but  I just don't know how.

UPDATE: Got my new monitors and connected one to the display port and one using strictly HDMI, reason being is that I only have one display port to HDMI cable. The HDMI boots directly to the primary screen, which is to my right, I want the primary screen to my left.. I tried using the NVIDIA control panel to switch the display port to primary and the HDMI to secondary. didn't work. Apparently using HDMI on the video card is default. If I use the HDMI port on the card for the TV, I'm guessing that it will boot directly to the TV making it the primary monitor and that is exactly what i DON'T WANT (AHowes you were right). Granted I can switch the cables and accomplish what I want with the two monitors, however, that leaves the TV out using HDMI. I think I said in one of my posts that I tried to use the display port to the HDTV and that don't work, can't select it on the tv even though the tv shows the HDMI port being used.
This whole exercise was to have the ability too use the DVD in the computer without having to buy a DVD cause of the space constraints I have AND use the HDTV as a monitor. Right now it seems like this has been an exercise in futility.

What you want to do is easily done with the proper adapters/cables.

Connect one monitor to displayport. (right monitor) *Use the cable I told you to buy if your monitor doesn't have a dp input*
Connect one monitor to hdmi. (left monitor) *You must use an hdmi to hdmi cable here*
Connect TV to a displayport output using an active adapter. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S0C7QO8/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=plugabltechno-20

Done.

Ya just gota get over the hurdle and life will be good afterwards. Buy the adapter I or Sajin mentioned.

Though its nuts you cant change the arrangement of the displays in nvidia control panel. Should be able to move that around and tell it were to place the 2nd monitor either left or right of the main.

If not just use a hdmi to hdmi for the left monitor and the display port to hdmi for the other 2 and the displayport to hdmi 4k adapter for the tv.

AHowes, Sajin: Just bought the adapter you suggested. Unless someone gives me a link to something you can tell me "active adapters" all day long and I have no Idea what they are or exactly what to look for. Thank you Sajin. Now here's a dumb question. Using the Active Adapter, it will extend the desktop correct? If that's the case then outstanding. When you've never done something it can get very frustrating very quickly. You can sit all day long and read and read and read but the practical application is not so cut and dried as you may think.
AHowes: You asked why I didn't buy monitors with display ports. Well, I actually didn't know they made them. In fact I had no idea that the 1070 had such an animal let alone what they were called or even what they were used for, never used them before now. All I know is HDMI. I did a search using "pc monitor with display port", came up with all kinds of monitors with display ports AND HDMI. Now I know. That's why I always go to the people who know this stuff. All the guys that posted anything since I started this know a heck of a lot more than I do and don't think I don't appreciate your help cause if it weren't for guy like yourself, Sajin and everyone else, us dummy's would be up the creek without a paddle.
Anyway. Should get the active adapter by Thursday or Friday. After I get it hooked up I'll be back and let you know how things went.

Yes, but the adapter doesn't provide the actual extension. Windows, or the nvidia driver will handle that.

Sajin: I kinda figured that. I was supposed to get the adapter today, found out there was a screw up with USPS, so needless to say I didn't get it. Will hope it comes tomorrow. Can't wait to see what happens.

Well, I got the cable Friday, hooked it up and what a cluster fudge. Talk about trying to get things straight. In the NVIDA Control Panel the HDTV is 1st display, the monitor on my desk that is directly in front of me is 2nd display and the 2nd monitor on my desk to my right is 3rd display. The first monitor on my desk, which I use as primary is using HDMI strictly, the second monitor on my desk is using display port to HDMI and needless to say you know how the HDTV is connected.
What I can't understand is why the active display port to the HDTV is being identified as the 1st display. I've tried moving cables but all that does is screw things up so the only alternative is to leave things be or I could purchase another display port to HDMI cable and see what happens. I was hoping to get the HDTV as the 3rd monitor but looks like that ain't gonna happen and as far as HDMI is concerned, it don't matter, it is not the primary display and if you use display ports they takes precedence over the HDMI at least that's what I'm seeing. Its possible that if you have a monitor that has a display port it would work better if you're using display ports strictly.

No matter how all thst is going on you still should still be able to tell windows or nvidia (nvidia control panel) which display is your main display and the order of the other displays and where to position them left or right of your main display.

Go into either display properties or nvidia control panel and select multi display. Hit the show numbered display or whatever it's called to show the numbers on the display. Then whatever your main display was select thst on the screen and select make this my main display. Then rearrange the others according to how you want them left or right of the main.. just drag them on the screen where there are placed. I believe the default is to expand the desktop to the other displays.. what you would want.

I'm not sure how your going to get the NFL game to the 4th 4k screen.. hopefully whatever app you use to play the game let's you select the screen to display on.. or drag it onto the 4th screen.

If you select duplicate the screen onto the other screens it's going to use 1080 screen res settings on the 4k screen.

Maybe a multi monitor software would help if you run into more issues..

The while screen order from connection really only matters outside of windows.. like if you go into the motherboard bios.. or the boot post screen when you turn on your pc. That will always show on the screen connected to the hdmi port.

Sajin: The card  you're showing I believe is a 1080, the 1070 has a DVI as well as display ports and HDMI. Question: Would the priority be the same? in regards to the display ports and HDMI or would there be a difference because of the DVI port?
AHowes: I have tried all that you have suggested in your last post to include switching cables to include using the active display cable on the one cable that is strictly HDMI,  the only thing that was accomplished was to put the HDTV as Monitor 2, and boy did that screw things up. I think, maybe, getting rid of the HDMI cable altogether and using strictly the display ports might be the answer. The next cable will have to be from display port to HDMI because of the monitor but I think, and this is just a guess, that as long as I'm using the display ports (not HDMI port) I MIGHT be able to accomplish what I want. Here's an idea of what the monitor configuration looks like (I would attach an image but to do that I have to have a URL, and that I don't have, so I have to do the best I can with what I Got)

                                                    MONITOR                            MONITOR                            HDTV
                                                           2                                        3                                     1
                                                       Primary
Using Sajin's pic of the 1080            HDMI PORT "A"                      DP= C                             DP=D
Like I asked Sajin, I don't know if that makes any difference because the 1070 has the DVI port, so I have no idea.

The port priority is the same when it comes to the dp & hdmi ports.

Sajin: cool. I just ordered another dp to hdmi cable to do away with hdmi to hdmi so that should take care of the problem, should get on 1 Aug. I'll be back to let you know the outcome.
