Not sure if the forum is the right place to raise this issues or if I should contact the support... I have some issues with power management on the EVGA H370 Stinger mainboard.

Standby:
- the PC does not go to hibernation from standby even it is configured in Windows
- it is not possible to wake up the PC from standby by keyboard (wireless keyboard receiver is attached to USB3 port), only by power button.

Hibernation:
- the PC does not disable USB power in Hibernation mode (only when ErP setting is  active, it is switched off)
- no wake up by RTC possible

All this points worked with my old Intel board. Is there anything I can modify to change above behavior?

Have you tried the latest BIOS?  It was posted yesterday.

Yes, I am using latest BIOS. I could not see any difference in this area. Should it have fixed something for power management? The release notes only mention fixes in SGX area and for AUX FAN (I guess it fixed the problem that voltage control did not work for this connector)

The difficulty with sleep issues, is that it may be a Windows issue or there could be a number of devices or components that interfere.  You should probably go into command prompt to do a sleep study to see which items may be causing problems.  It may be that there are components or devices that were not present on your previous motherboard that are not being utilized properly.

Is this a fresh Windows installation?

You could also try the Windows Media Creation Tool to have it reinstall basic Windows files (Select Update, don't use it to reinstall Windows, lol) to see if the issue is resolved.

Thanks for your advices. It is a fresh Windows installation, therefore I see no benefit in just installing again.

I did sleep study as you suggested. Here no specific issue was reported, but I see some potential problem in the "platform role" that is set to "Mobile":

System Power Report
COMPUTER NAME PC-1
SYSTEM PRODUCT NAME EVGA INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD Default string
BIOS 1.02 06/27/2018
OS BUILD 17134.1.amd64fre.rs4_release.180410-1804
PLATFORM ROLE Mobile
REPORT TIME 2018-07-12 07:59:40

Why EVGA did specify this MB as "mobile platform"?
From my understanding Windows uses a different power management profile for mobile platform. This might explains the different behaviour from my previous build. (Here platform role was set to "desktop").

Is it possible to define "platform role" as "desktop" in next BIOS? (in case there is no specific reason for choosing "mobile")

BTW: also product name could be improved from "Default string" to something more meaningful...

Out of curiosity, are you connected to a UPS and using the software that comes with it (if any)?

No, the PC is not connected to UPS.

Any comment to the "PLATFORM ROLE Mobile"? How to change it to "desktop"? (my guess is it needs to be changed in BIOS code)

Re: H370 Stinger: Power management issues 2018/07/12 12:08:09 (permalink)
Hmm, I'm not sure that this is a BIOS issue, but I'll send this over to our motherboard team to look at regardless.  I'll send you a PM if they request any follow up information.

The reason I asked about the UPS is that UPS software can make Windows treat a desktop system like a laptop or other mobile device, as it creates the ability for battery-related settings.  If you're not currently using one or have that sort of software installed, then that's one less possibility.

Thanks a lot for your support!

From my investigations the info about PLATFORM ROLE is read from the FADT (Fixed ACPI Description Table). I understand this is included within the BIOS code. And I assume that Windows behaves differently depending on the value set in PLATFORM ROLE.

You can also read out this values using msinfo32.exe. See attached screenshot:

Mine is mobile too.
So is it the reason i7 8700 uses more power in this board than in Z370?

Re: H370 Stinger: Power management issues 2018/07/17 11:09:03 (permalink)
Our team did some testing on this.
roppp
Standby:
- the PC does not go to hibernation from standby even it is configured in Windows
- it is not possible to wake up the PC from standby by keyboard (wireless keyboard receiver is attached to USB3 port), only by power button.

They could not reproduce either issue.

The configuration included an i7 8700, G.Skill memory, UHD Graphics, Samsung 960 EVO, and an 850 G3 power supply.  They also tested with three different sets of wireless keyboards and mice, including from different brands.

roppp
Hibernation:
- the PC does not disable USB power in Hibernation mode (only when ErP setting is  active, it is switched off)
- no wake up by RTC possible

The H370 does not support disabling USB power in hibernation mode.
They were unable to reproduce the no wake up by RTC issue.

Regarding the platform role, our team will change the platform role over to Desktop on the next BIOS version.  It's unlikely it will make a difference for any of your issues, since our team tested with the same BIOS that you are currently using.

Thanks for all the testing efforts and feedback.

As you could not reproduce the issue I did some further testing with my PC. Regarding the wake up from standby by keyboard, it is working now for me. At first I disabled standby in BIOS (changed setting from "S3" to never). After restart, the standby option was removed from Windows as expected. Then I enabled standby again in BIOS. Then Windows had again the standby option in Start menu. Since then I can wake up the PC with the keyboard. Not sure if toggling standby setting changed something in BIOS or in Windows to make it work... Now checking of also the other issues were gone.
In the BIOS there is no setting to configure the wake up events (USB, RTC, WoL ... ). Is this intended? Could this be added to give the user control over the wake up behavior?

BTW: thanks for changing platform role in next BIOS. Currently my PC is registered as Laptop even in Microsoft account because of this reason. If possible, please also modify "Default string" in "System model" to something more meaningful. I know both values might be only cosmetic issues, but somehow it still irritates me

Thanks for the update!

Yes, I can ask if they can add additional control options for Wake On.

To speculate, it may have just been a BIOS quirk.  Sometimes you can also reset the BIOS to force settings to update.  Although most people don't think of it, it is proper procedure to reset the BIOS after flashing to a new BIOS to clear out anything left over.  Disabling, then re-enabling the standby feature seems to have accomplished something similar.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Just wondering, is there any new BIOS released soon for the H370? I see there was a new BIOS for the Z370, but not for H370.

The only thing I can tell you is to watch the EVGA website. When there is a new BIOs EVGA tends to post them quickly.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA
