Hey guys!

I was wondering if any of you had experience with this, as it seems to be a bit extreme in my case and maybe there's something I can try.

Basically when I'm booting up, it seems to stick forever on the X299 FTW-K screen and the bottom right corner shows A0, along with the POST code numbers on the mobo. I've timed it and it takes around 40-42 seconds before it gets past this and start loading windows.

From the mobo manual I see A0 means "IDE initialization is started" - but this doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

My specs are in my sig if this helps! I have my OS on my Samsung NVMe drive.

Thanks all.

I just looked at the FTW PDF, I did not see that they have any sata ports listed as legacy like they do on the X299 Dark, you might want to confirm. Also what is the sata set for in the BIOS, IDE or AHCI? Preferably AHCI

You might also check to see if both the Crucial and Seagate are up to date on their firmware

The Sata is set to AHCI.

Thanks for checking - The firmware for the Crucial and Seagate should be up to date, but I'll double check!

If you set your system back to using the Optimized system defaults in the BIOS, does it help?  Usually the "F5" key in the BIOS.

Do you have CSM enabled or disabled?

Have updated/installed your Chipset driver and other latest drivers? > https://www.evga.com/support/download/

Do you have Windows "fast startup" disabled in the Windows power options?  Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do (left pane) > Change settings that are currently unavailable > uncheck fast startup if checked.

EDIT:  Another thing you can check is download/install/run this to see the condition/status of all your drives > https://crystalmark.info/en/software/crystaldiskinfo/

That's not so slow post time.
My computer post arround 30-35 seconds.

I suppose post time depend of BIOS and platform.
I didn't saw people with X99 and X299 with post time 10-15 seconds as with Z77, Z87, Z97.
On EVGA Z77 FTW I was in Windows for 11 seconds, with SATA III SSD.
Now 30-38 seconds depend of situation.

Can you try disconnecting all the other drives and run with just the nvme boot drive and see if you can isolate the problem a little bit further?

I'm running x299 dark and my boot times are about 15secs the moment I see the evga logo till I get to windows

I'm running x299 dark and my boot times are about 15secs the moment I see the evga logo till I get to windows

The boot times remained the same after disconnecting the SSHD & SSD.

I've actually switched the processor to a spare 7740x I have laying around - with the same RAM config (albeit in slots 5-8 now instead) the boot times dropped to around 15 seconds too!

So somehow the 7820x was the cause of my extra slow boot times for whatever reason. Don't quite understand what would cause that but at least I've found part of the reason !

Hello Mattukr!

I would recommend reinstalling Windows onto your NVME drive using the Windows Media Creation tool, which you can find with a quick Google search. There may be an issue with the boot loader but reinstalling a fresh copy of Windows usually fixes this.

Let us know if this helps resolve your issues :) I know it helped mine before.

+1 That should fix it for sure but before you try that see if Windows can fix the startup issue

This procedure assumes you have Windows 10
1: Go to settings
2: Choose Update & Security
3: On the left choose recovery
4: Under Advanced Startup choose 'Restart Now'
5: After restarting you'll the first screenshot below. Choose Troubleshoot
6: In Troubleshoot (2nd screenshot) choose Advanced Options
7: In the last screenshot choose Startup Repair

If this doesn't work you may have to use the fresh install recommended by EVGA Tech Jose

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

Hi Jose,

In fact I did do a reinstallation (I switch to a Vega 64) and now my boot times are nearly instant! From power-on to windows login is approx 8-10 seconds max again now. So maybe the GPU was somehow slowing it down too, or just a fresh install helped indeed.

Whatever the reason, thanks all for the help and it's nice to be back and speedy again!!

Cheers

Glad that your issue has been resolved! More than likely the boot loader was acting up, when mine was acting up, loading into Windows would take up to 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact our customer service team if anything comes up at support@evga.com
