Hey guys wondering which 1080 ti would be the best for my application?
I do allot of gaming and will eventually get a higher res monitor.New Egg
So far i have looked at the EVGA ftw3 1080 ti and the Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme 1080 TI
I know these cards are way over priced right now, also i do not want to wait for next gen of nvidia offerings
want to stick with air cooling for the GPU. Currently using an Antec 1200 case
I7 4790K, Asus maximus vii hero MB, 16 gig corsair memory @ 2400
Any recommendations would be great
Thanks again in advance

    Both great high-end 1080TIs ... I’d give the nod to FTW3.

Also I think EVGA has much better customer service than Gigabyte.

Note: FTW3 uses 2 slots while Xtreme takes 2.5 slots (it’s wider and heavier).

Personally, whichever is the cheapest 1080 Ti you can find, buy it. The simple fact is, almost all 1080 Ti will overclock between 2025-2100, with the exception of golden samples that clock above 2100. It's just really a crap shoot (silicon lottery) and any clocks between those have a difference of 1-2 fps.

A couple of things to consider:
    1. Brand that is easy to deal with RMA's etc. - This will depend on which country you live in
    2. Do you want dual slot or something thicker? - important if you change cases in the future
    3. Do you want air or water cooled? - Also think about this - if you decide to slap on an AIO down the line is the card you're getting compatible with any solutions out there (if you wish to push your card further or want a more quiet solution).

Like Thaddeus says, all 1080 tis should overclock nicely so I wouldn't put much stock/money in factory OC'ed models.  I lean more towards what runs cooler and quieter than what is OC'ed 1% higher out of the box.  I'd suggest looking for a card that has larger fans and heatsink which normally gives you better dBs and heat dissipation -- that SC2 Elite linked above, for example.

Okay what about the SC2 vs FTW3 , I am just wondering if i would have good luck with the SC2, it would be easier to obtain.
Does the FTW3 have better power management on the pcb and better cooling?
Thank you guys again for your input
Are the gpu's from the same Tier
I do know you can add a water block to the ftw3

FTW3 is overlocked a little higher out of the box vs SC2.

    FTW3 has 10+2 phase VRMs (required 2x8pin PCI-E power) vs SC2 with 7+2 phase VRMs (required 1x8pin and 1x6pin PCI-E power).

FTW3 has 3 fans vs SC2 with 2 fans.  Both use iCX cooling.

    Some more comparisons.

You can't really go wrong with either.  I will share that I'm very happy with my FTW3.

Either would be a good choice. I'd opt for the SC2 due to the slightly larger fans, over the slightly higher out of the box speed on the ftw (which can almost certainoy be nullified through overclocking. Smaller triple fan solutions can really whir at high rpm in my experience.

I also have the Auros Xtreme which is a superb, quiet card, although it takes up 3 slots.

I'd also opt for the SC2 because it's easier to fit in almost all cases versus the FTW3, specially if you decide to go micro atx or mini-itx down the line. Another reason to pick the SC2 would be easier to find water blocks if you decide to water cool down the line as well as well. Last reason to choose the SC2 is, you're not tied to using Precision XOC so you can set a fan curve for all 3 fans in the FTW3. With the SC2 you can use MSI AB (which is still the best solution out there) without having to worry about the fan curves not being able to control all fans.

Don't know if the Asus Strix model was on your radar or not but it was the best air cooler out of all of them.

As for SC2 or FTW3, I suggest the SC2. I picked it over the FTW3 Hybrid and fits well in my relatively small midtower.

Okay guys  here we go I took the plunge I ordered the EVGA ftw3 instead of SC2, for cooling reasons 3 fans as opposed to two

Antec 1200 case...I had a 900 for a bit..amazing I actually ran 3-Way SLI in it without starting a fire.   ACX style need a lot of airflow as they basically recirculate the internal case air. If you're using the front drive cages, it really restricts the intake flow.

+1. Unless things have changed since the last year ASUS CS is in last place in my personal opinion.

wow this 1080 ti is really fast very impressed.
Trying to find  a good full tower case with great air flow
So fare I like the corsair 760T but may have to change out the fans.
Lots of other good cases out there
Was thinking about using a 280mm closed loop for the cpu cooling mounted on top
