Already sent away for RMA( they received it Monday)....was told to get in contact by friday if i had no updates from EVGA.....so i thought posting a thread might be the quicker response as email seems to take days to get a reply

Monday was a Pentecost holiday in Germany (so it was a 3 day weekend). Hopefully everything will return to normal now.

set hysteresis to 5 from stock setting of 0 this forces the temp to drop 5C before the fan will slow again my basic rule of thumb for mild fan curve: 30% min, then temp in C + 10 = fan speed % so 50C = 60 % fan

On the bright side you know you will get an RMA of a 1080. So at least that is a nice end result even if it takes a second RMA to get a good one.

The EVGA Tech is taking care of this. Let us know if another RMA is needed.

just before my EVGA 980ti ACX SC+ blew up (i believe it was one of the R33 transistors) - the fans were randomly ramping up to max RPMs for a few seconds at a time. Doesn't happen often at all, but was going on for almost a week, then - boom, heard a pop, smelt smoke, and computer did a hard shutdown, happened while running a game. Unfortunately it's just past warranty, purchased 2015. I guess I'm fortunate that it didn't damage any of my other components. But really, I think there should have been a mass product re-call for all of the ACX products.... as people are getting blown transistors anywhere from a few hours use to a few years.

yeah i had the same thing happend to me "the fans were randomly ramping up to max RPMs for a few seconds at a time. Doesn't happen often at all, but was going on for almost a week, then - boom, heard a pop, smelt smoke, and computer did a hard shutdown" like 3 weeks ago but i still had 1 month left of warranty but now they sendt me a new 980 so if im guessing right its proably gone blow up again like it does for everyone else so im feeling excited for the next months dealing with pc issues every day.
