05/17/2018: Valve announced earlier this month that its Steam Link game streaming service would be coming to mobile by the end of May, and now we have a beta version on Android to play around with. The app is live on Google’s Play Store starting today, and it will let you stream full PC games via Steam so long as the smartphone is connected to a nearby PC through a 5GHz Wi-Fi network and the PC is connected directly to your router with an ethernet connection. For now, it seems that you won’t be able to use Steam Link over LTE.

    Steam games on your phone/tablet as long as it is close enough to your computer to be within the same WiFi coverage area. Pointless? Yes, probably.

    At some point, could this compete with nVidia's Shield or GRID in the sense of prerendered gaming elsewhere only to beam into a wireless device?

    Well if you have your smartphone on a business trip that would work out well if the wifi is good enough

    Except that you cannot at this time. They say that you must be within the same network coverage area of the PC. So, that will not be possible, unless your business trip is 100 feet away from your PC. Again, at this time, this sounds pointless. It only works when next to your PC, so why not just use your PC? As said, playing on the PC would be a much better experience.

    Got excited when I heard this as I expected Steam was going to bring proper gaming to Android. Kind of MEH when you realize it's just streaming PC games within your network.
