I purchased a EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 80+ GOLD, 1000W in 2015 because Amazon had an amazing deal on it.
It sat new in my closet until 2017 when I built a new new PC and felt it was time to finally put the EVGA PSU to use.

Problem
1: Built new rig with evga psu and seemed to have no issues.
2: less than 8 months later my GPU died. (Sapphire R9 390x)
3: RMA'ed my GPU to Sapphire who replaced it with a new R9 390x
4: Less than 6 months later my GPU died again.
5: I no longer trust my EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2, so i removed it from my system and am now using my old Corsair PSU and old 7950 GPU because Sapphire refuses to replace my 390x again.

QUESTION
1: Losing two GPUS in such a short time period has me worried about using the EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 anymore, but I really
have no clue how to test to see if the PSU is the problem.
How can i possibly test this?

More info on dead GPUs
1: Im a gamer, not a miner so my GPUs were never mined on.
2: My GPUs were never overclocked since after owning a R9 290 previously, i already knew my 390x was "basically" an "overclocked 290x" so i never felt the need.
3: I used a custom fan profile to keep GPU load temps in gaming to never go above 70c. (monitored in-games using Afterburner/RTSS)
4: Both GPUs never showed any signs of dying/failing.....Im gaming one moment, and screen went black and GPU never started again, no fans...no NOTHING! Completely dead.
(very odd both GPUs had sudden failure the exact same way!)
5: Ive pretty much treated my whole setup here with kid gloves compared to most who would overclock the crap out of all my hardware and i cannot believe ive had two GPU failures!

How can i possibly test this?

You can't unless you buy an oscilloscope to check the ripple.

Is Sapphire going to replace your dead GPU a second time? That is odd that your GPU died within 6 months of replacement.
As far as the PSU goes, I wouldn't be afraid of it. It has several decent reviews for the unit you listed, and shows excellent ripple control.  I'm sure it's very frustrating to go through the process you have been through.

That's what I thought.
So I'm basically stuck with a PSU I'm afraid to use and cannot use the warranty because i have no way of telling if the PSU is actually faulty.

No, Sapphire refused replace my 390x a second time. (And....they are the ones that suggested my PSU may be faulty)

And yeah, im well aware of the Praise for the EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2, thats why i bought it when i saw a good deal on it, even though i didn't even need it at the time.

It's just GPUs are too darned expensive to risk killing another one.

6 months is quite a gap between the two failures which is most likely just coincidental (and I've seen some very odd ones in my time at EVGA) but if it makes you feel better I would just submit an RMA to get it replaced just to be safe.
contact our support at either 888.881.3842 or email support@evga.com

One more thing, I did take a look at your account but you do not have your PSU registered yet so be sure to get that done and if possible upload a copy of your receipt as well and the rest of the process will be smooth as butter.

Happy to help! Not necessary to send the tracking number but I would advise that you keep it close so you can confirm that we have received it since sometimes the product will sit in our warehouse for a day or two before it is checked in for processing.
