Hi. I have an issue regarding my 970. When i am playing GTA or Far cry 5, my screen goes black after a while, but i still have audio and can still talk in discord. I ran Furmark with no problems and my temp did not go over 70c. When i am running MSI Afterburner in the backround (just for checking temps) i have no problems, because i have the fan speed at auto. But i often forget to start it. I don't want to be so dependent on Afterburner, so any ideas of what the issue is? Is it an overheating problem?

PS: Cooler master G750M 750W

Auto means the card is running off the default vbios fan curve built into the card. Doesn't sound like a overheating issue to me. Does the fan on the gpu spin up to 100% when the screen goes black? Does the screen go black when using the hdmi, displayport & dvi outputs on the card?

I have not checked the fans when the screen goes black, but i will check next time it goes black. Yes the screen goes completely black, and can not find any singnal from the HDMI.

Test the dvi & displayport outputs to see if they also produce the black screen.

may try older or newer driver  ,  some drivers can cause a black screen under some games and / conditions .    then port issues like display port  not working are kinda common on 900 series

may also look in to them games  on having black screen issues  ?

Far cry 5,  seemzs to had issue and maybe a patch  ?

several more if you look

seems like GTA was ''buggie'' as well

thig is it works all through that furmark  ?  try mark3d firestrike  as well   and see  .   to me abnd I could be wrong  if a port issue it would do it no matter  not just this or that  [opinion]

good luck

''Auto means the card is running off the default vbios fan curve built into the card. Doesn't sound like a overheating issue to me''  I agree with sajin  70c is comfortable  at full running load over time used on air

check your driver feed back threads  like this latest someone stated [dang all ready 27 pages ?? ]

''Please fix gta 5 godrays!
Gta 5 godrays are missing when enabling any kind of msaa(2x,4x...)
Driver 388.71 was the last driver without this issue. So the issue is caused by drivers and not the game itself

but the best true one from that thread

''In my opinion get rid of the crap called Win10 go back to a solid non invasive, non spying operating system that always works with every nVidia driver (It's called Win7.)''

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1043071/geforce-drivers/official-391-35-game-ready-whql-display-driver-feedback-thread-released-3-27-18-/

like the joke says  '' NVidia breaks as much as they fix anymore / ''    , so you never know what to expect one driver to the next

So when i tried the display port, is still blacked screened after 20 min or so, but this time the sound cut out. After it blacked, the display port didn't work anymore. The fans was still on and running when the screen blacked

Is your video card a factory overclocked model?

Some cards seem to get 'stuck' or something, and dont do anything right.
I have one of those cards. I HAVE to have msi afterburner running while gaming. It turns on some things that the computer doesnt, ms timings are cut by 80% or more (from 37 seconds to 1ms, according to aida64).
I have no idea whats wrong, have done everything to try to fix it, but only afterburner makes it work most times. Consider yourself lucky you found something that fixes it. I know how bad it is to have video card fans at 100% while gaming, 2 feet from your ears (mine anyway), but maybe get a headset to minimize the noise until you upgrade the whole computer, or the video card?
Or you can play the rma game, and have it keep getting sent back to you saying the card has no problems, or worse get a terrible card back with worse issues.

But, I would try Sajins things to try to fix it, especially if you are on win10, since it sometimes sets itself to auto update mobo and video card drivers on ms updates after some large patches that changes the way win10 works, like the anniversary edition and one after that did and messed up peoples rigs, and the only way to fix them was to redo the whole os over again.
