So Even with the prices high, I said screw it and wanted to try and build my own gaming rig.   I went with the Z370 Classified motherboard.   Now I am a little confused about installing windows on a m.2 nvme ssd.    I did buy windows 10 home edition that came on a thumb stick.   Is there anything crazy I need to do in bios for it to show the ssd in the pci slot?   Reading other stuff, it was suggested that I do not hook up the SATA HDD until after i get windows going on the ssd.    Is this correct?

Another question, Do I need to update the bios when i hookup the motherboard?   No clue how i do that.   Is it needed?  or can i get it working without a bios update.

Your system is very close to mine. Just make sure the m.2 slot is enabled in the bios but I believe it is by default. The bios will see the drive by name as well. I have the same 960 m.2 as well as an 850 pro SSD and an old 7200rpm hard drive. I had them all installed when I installed windows. The installation will ask you where you want to install windows. You’ll see the 960 in the list but if you want to make it easier then just install the 960 m.2 then that will be the only option to install windows. Afterwards you’ll just add the other drives you want and can format them with the disk management utility in win 10.
I do recommend updating the bios to the latest. This will cover the patches for the meltdown/specter issues that evga now included in the bios. The software patches that will install through windows update coincide with the bios firmware. First thing I did was the bios firmware before I installed windows. Just download the latest bios to a usb stick using another computer. Then while in the bios on the save and exit screen you’ll see an option to update. Just plug in the usb and navigate to the file. This info is included on the page where you’ll download the bios. Other option is to update through windows with evga’s utility but I prefer to update direct through bios without the windows overhead.
I’m running the Z370 Classified k also. Solid board no issues. You’ll have a lot of fun with it!
If you do the bios update your pc may turn on and off several times. Don’t get nervous just let it sit and do its thing. That’s what mine did. When it was done it turned on and stayed on. Then you’ll be good.

I appreciate it! Final parts will be here friday. If I hit any issues I will update here. Downloaded bios to a thumb stick like you said. Also downloaded all z370 updates to the thumb stick. Will keep this updated this weekend.

I also just went through this...
Once you add the second drive windows will not automatically show a drive, you have to go to the storage manager and format it first.
But otherwise as cjsquirrel said the windows installer on the usb drive should see the first ssd upon the installation

Yea I will probably plug in 2nd hdd after i get windows up and running.   Will W10 automatically download Drivers for everything on the PC once its up and going.  Or do I do it from a thumb drive once in windows.  I did download all drivers from evga's list for the z370 mobo

Windows 10 comes with most of the drivers and most others will be downloaded. I recommend installing the drivers for grafics, NVME and chipset manualy.
Make shure you read pages 52/53 in the manual. If you still have problems finding the NVME-drive unplug your hdd and install the drivers for your nvme-drive on the Windows-install stick and manually select this driver.
You can find them here: samsung . com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools/

And don't forget - there are two Bios chips on the Classy. If your Bios update worked as planed flash the secound Bios as well.

I never connect a new computer to the internet when doing a windows install until after using the CD with the motherboard drivers.

OK to wait on BIOS update if no other  computer at least for this new BIOS

when using one or two M.2 best to NOT connect SATA ports tell windows is installed and working unless you know which SATA ports are disable by the M.2 devices.

I did have a set of flash drives ready for mine with windows 10 and BIOS

(all went well for me with the same M.2 you have.)

Dual BIOS works well for playing around with memory and CPU overclocking

Read the BIOS update notes before trying to go BACK a version level in BIOS

Did the flash the bios.   I had a crazy time getting the back of the case on the D76 after i had all the cords back there. So ended up plugging in the hdd before i installed windows. I was actually lucky, PC only saw the m.2 nvme and not the hdd. So had windows working off sdd and updated all drivers with a thumb drive. straight to m.2.    After everything was updated i figured out why i wasnt seeing the hdd, and got that working.

Not only that. You should regulary update only BIOS in Switch 1 Position. If something happen bad you will boot BIOS 2, but again change Switch Position and flash 1st BIOS.
Always keep Second default version. On that way you will easier avoid problems.
That was great function when EVGA start to do.
Later and others start to offer two BIOS and save people to brick motherboards and send in service.
But people make mistake and update example newest BIOS on both position and that function lose half of purpose.

The real interesting part is when there is a replaceable bios chip like on the classified k Z270

isn't the switch on the Z370 K  under the video card  :-) to keep little brother from messing with it
