Only place to get msrp price is from the nvidia store. If you're buying a custom card from evga, asus, msi, gigabyte, etc. they can set the prices to whatever they wish.

We're talking about's EVGA's original MSRP. These cards have had a very noticeable increase in price from EVGA. That's what people were coming here for, because once they hit places like Newegg, they would get priced way more then what EVGA had them at in their store.

3rd party sellers on newegg can set the price to whatever they wish.

Anyone want to tell me that it's not the miners causing these insane prices?

I hope the bottom falls out of e-coin and all these stupid miners lose their asses.  And those companies who didn't take care of their customers feel the pain of it.

We are talking about the price EVGA is setting on these cards from their store, not 3rd party sellers. People were coming here to get closer to EVGA's original MSRP price and look at the prices now. $1,000 for a GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 plus shipping. People were expressing their concerns of the higher prices at EVGA's store, hence the creation of this topic.

Just checked my email and got one from nVidia. It says they will have limited supply of the GTX 1080 Ti on March 23rd.

EVGA is a boutique GPU manufacturer, so their prices were always higher, but lately it's become absurd.

The 10 series prices were questionable before the shortage and resellers jacking up pricing when compared to the 9 series.

This is what I don't get why nVidia cards are still the same price as MSRP while EVGA almost increase their prices up to 20%-40% more.  I understand custom cards have a slight increase and memory cost increase but what's nVidia excuse for keeping the cost the same and not increasing it.

Best guess would be because they can afford to do that.

I hate to say it as a PC gamer for 18 years but if I didn’t have a GPU and was looking... I would rather get a XBOX One X or a PS4 PRO and games then over pay for a midrange GPU.

Re: Conversations over pricing and how it could impact customers 2018/03/22 18:02:17 (permalink)
To help with the discussion, let's pick the EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3:
-- Original MSRP from EVGA was on/about $780 (if I remember correctly)
-- Today's MSRP from EVGA is $999.99 ... or about a $220 increase in MSRP
-- Not to be confused by sales of the same card by retailers (NewEgg, B&H, etc) which is even higher price (which got as high as $1500 just a month or so ago)

So what does this mean re: impact on customers?  It means anyone who wants to buy an EVGA 10 Series GPU would want to buy direct from EVGA first because the MSRP is the lowest price available (even with recent MSRP markup), as compared to the broader market which costs more.  Which also means that EVGA's supplies of most 10 Series GPUs gets cleaned out pretty quickly.  "Limit 1 per household" helps but can't stop miners from buying or from others folks buying and reselling at markup as well.

So the effects on EVGA customers as I see them fall into a few broad categories:

1) Frustrated customers who are still waiting for GPU prices to drop back closer to original MSRP
2) Semi-satisfied customers who were able to get an EVGA GPU at the new MSRP but may not be as happy b/c the price is higher than original MSRP
3) The lucky/few happy customers who were able to get an EVGA GPU at the new MSRP because they could get it before EVGA supplies ran out
4) Some semi-satisfied customers who were able to get an EVGA GPU from a retailer at a price higher than new MSRP but may not be as happy b/c they couldn't buy it from EVGA at new MSRP or the original MSRP
5) Happy customers (like me) who were able to get an EVGA GPU from a retailer at a higher price--I'm an EVGA loyalist ... and am just glad that prices dropped enough that I didn't have to pay $1500 for my new GPU

I could see trends where frustrated or semi-satisfied customers may want to know why "EVGA isn't doing more?" to help make GPUs more affordable for gamers--which is your base of support for your brand.  While the happy/happier customers who are bought into the EVGA brand are more patient with "riding the storm" of GPU pricing with EVGA.

So what should EVGA be doing?  Should EVGA lower MSRP back closer to original?  I don't think that's fair ... b/c I want EVGA to be competitive so I can buy new GPUs now and in the future (the 2080Ti ;D ?) and the market is what it is.  I would hope/expect EVGA to price competitively compared to high-end GPU competitors like ASUS ROG STRIX to give me the choice.  But something to consider ... perhaps EVGA could do something to help make 1060 series cards a little more affordable and closer to $300 price point for gamers--that would make for a lot of happy folks.

I paid 529$ for the gtx1070Ti Hybrid, look at the price now.
Got the 1080Ti Black for 709$  I am so glad I got them when I did.

I had signed up to be notified from Nvidia's page. They can keep the price low cause they never have cards for sale. Not one notification from them.

Some food for thought. EVGA is in the Video card business. They have no product to sell.
This shortage has to be bad for the bottom line. Yeah they do sell cases, PSUs, CPU coolers and motherboards.
But many are not buying those parts either if you can not get a GPU for the build.
Maybe why the prices are a bit higher so they can stay in business. Figure they still have payroll to meet even if they have no product to sell. Plus add in all the RMAs they must process every week.

I think the real key thing to consider is if EVGA posts cards how quickly are they gone. The prices have gone up but we still see people posting wanting to know when they will be in stock.

Like everyone I like lower prices but I also accept that when they come in they sell out super fast.

Actually since the last week price hike, the cards aren't selling as fast like they were.  When the 1080 Ti FTW3 was selling around $849.99 (still above original MSRP), it lasted for 15mins.  Now with the current price, it last for hours or until the next day.  EVGA finally hit the price point where majority of the consumers are hesitant to buy and only the few that can't wait and willing to spend the absurd price increase especially when a new gen GPU is right around the corner.

Yup, EVGA has pretty much reached that point now. All of the cards that were posted yesterday are still available. I want the GTX 1080ti FTW3 Elite black but I want to pay closer to the original retail price. The current price is absurd especially in the cards current product cycle. IMO one will be able to purchase a FTW3 card on the used market really soon for far less when a ton of them get dumped by the minors. Will EVGA lower their prices then or will they just stop selling these cards?

Bahahhah did I just read someone suggest that Nvidia would take a loss to placate customers. Not a chance no way nvidia is loosing money in these cards this late in the game. Maybe (and it's anslim may given how they have milked high-end graphics card prices since fermi). they take a loss early on when yeilds are terrible but now no way.

I would also find it hard to believe they are charging enough extra to aib partners to justify in some cases like evgas ti a 40% price jump.

I also find it hard to believe that evga is hurting on the bottom line as far as sales go when stories of miners continue to swirl that they manage to buy cases of cars in bulk. I bet evgas overall card sales number are right in line with where they expected them to be.

That doesn't make sense. EVGA has a 1 card per household limit on their 10 series cards. It's not like the same house has been buying up all the cards. EVGA is cutting out possible scalpers by becoming the scalper themselves.

That might make sense if EVGA was the only AIB with shortages. Considering even Nvidia has been out of stock on their web store a lot, why do you single out EVGA alone, as being scalpers instead of  being tied to Nvidia's pricing which has caused every other AIB to raise prices?

Because EVGA has their own store, cutting out the middle man from charging scalper prices and EVGA has a limit of 1 per household. nVidia has both the GTX 1080 Ti and GTX 1070 Ti in stock yesterday at MSRP with a limit of 2.

Again, EVGA is dependent upon their supply from Nvidia.  That EVGA has their own store,  doesn't get them any cheaper from Nvidia. Volume does that. It was nice that Nvidia's own store finally had a few in stock. I guess pointing out that they had a few supposed to imply Nvidia has had oodles of stock for sale? Every single Pascal model is out of stock on Nvidia's webstore as of now.

Boy did they sell out fast. Gone in maybe 10 minutes. I actually had one in my cart but ultimately decided to wait for Nvidias next gen plus I'm actually pretty satisfied with my 980ti.:)

Explain why you can go to Newegg and purchase a top line Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti for less then you can here on EVGA's store. Is nVidia selling gpu's cheaper to Gigabyte then they are EVGA? Not hardly, EVGA partnership with nVida gets them cheaper prices and more allocation. As for nVida's website being out of stock most of the time, they have to supply AIB's with the gpu's and will have less for themselves. Making straw man arguments does nothing, if you have zero issues with EVGA's pricing, just say so and move on.

Then the higher prices at EVGA's store are justified for you.

Last 10 series card I purchased was the EVGA GTX 1060 06G-P4-6768-KR I purchased at Newegg for $289.99

I buy from microcenter whenever possible as it's way too easy to return or exchange anything there!

There's 6 evga ftw3 non hybrids there atm for $1079.99.

Though the last card "evga ftw3 hybrid" I bought at evga for $860 plus shipping maybe 2 months ago.

I believe evga will charge 25% for returns.

I think the real key thing to consider is if EVGA posts cards how quickly are they gone. The prices have gone up but we still see people posting wanting to know when they will be in stock.

Like everyone I like lower prices but I also accept that when they come in they sell out super fast.

That doesn't make sense. EVGA has a 1 card per household limit on their 10 series cards. It's not like the same house has been buying up all the cards. EVGA is cutting out possible scalpers by becoming the scalper themselves.

You want me to explain your argument then claim I am the one making a 'strawman argument'? Evga is dependent on Nvidia, a fact. volume gets EVGA parts cheaper, another fact. What was the strawman?  Your opinion of what is going on behind the scenes with Nvidia and EVGA is just that. EVGA has always had a price premium over Gigabyte. Isn't that a strawman that has nothing to do with EVGA, anyway? And if you don't mind, I'll move on when I feel like it and make whatever arguments I like. I expect you'd  demand the same courtesy, right.

Nope, don't need you to explain anything I have posted. This is the 2nd time you have taken this thread off topic with your arguing with straw man arguments. If you're fine with the prices EVGA has in their store, state it and move on, it's that easy.

Though Nvidia has good reasons to take advantage of the jacked up price to make the newer chips much more expensive, I guess the new GPU suggested price will be still the same, at least for consumer GPUs.

CPU - Intel 8700K - 5.1GHz core, 5.0GHz cache, 1.37v
GPU - EVGA FTW3 1080Ti SLI - 2.0GHz core, 12GHz memory
Motherboard - Asus Maximus X Hero
Memory - Corsair Dominator 4x16GB - 3000MHz default XMP 15-17-17-35
PSU - EVGA 1600T2
