Ok so I have a X99 Micro 2 rig I built for one of my brothers.  It has a Xeon E5-1620v3 at stock clocks, 16gb of the Gskill RGB series 3000mhz ram but not clocked to that IIRC, a GTX690, and is running Win 10 pro 64bit.  It's having random shut down issues and flat out refuses to ever play AC Black Flag, but that's minor compared to the plethora of random shut downs during games and other random times. No real blue screen as most of the time a game will hang and the system restarts or it just blacks out and restarts.

This has been a pretty consistent issue with this machine.  We did lose a Samsung Evo M.2 to it a few months back but Samsung came through with their warranty and since then it has not been reinstalled yet so that rules the SSD out for being the issue.  We also swapped GTX690's out for one I had that was pulled in working condition and issues still persist after driver updates and the like.

Looking for some ideas on where to start next, reinstall of windows has been ok'ed by my brother but this has been done before when the SSD crashed.  I am suspecting a possible conflict with the Xeon and RAM but would like to try other possible solutions before putting money into it for an i7.  Thanks.

Seems like it has all the drippings of being a faulty/underpowered PSU..Possible CPU or other hardware overheating..Temps OK?..Might want to manually set the RAM frequency, timing and voltage in the BIOS to manufacturers specs.

I also felt the PSU was left out of the equation unless thermal shutdowns are being experienced.

What PSU are you using for this system?  Do you have another one that can be used to test the system with?

I believe it's an EVGA 750w PSU which I would doubt would be under powered.  I have other PSUs that I can use to test that though.  The cooler is the 120CLC from EVGA.  May be faulty but I will install Afterburner to see what temps look like.

You can easily see your CPU temperature on motherboard's error code 2-digit display.
    For my i7 6850K and E5 1620v4, they're 58-63C on full loading with AVX2.

I'm curious if the OP managed to run tests with a different power supply and/or Afterburner? Any progress or improvement?
