Are the two U.2. ports on the X299 Dark, Optane ready?   The manual only mentions the 80mm M.2 slot.  It is not clear if Optane is a slot/port by slot/port specific feature or if it is the 'whole' mobo.

Just to confirm, there is no means in BIOS to RAID the two U.2. ports, or the two M.2s ?

Thx

The only real "Optane" port is the 2nd m.2 slot

I don't think you can raid the u.2 ports. You can raid the m.2 ports. You can also VROC the 2 m.2 as long as you use intel m.2 drives (unless intel has relaxed it and approved other drives that I am unaware of) - https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=W002-00-000066

Just do a google search for approved VROC drives

Optane need PCIe lanes routed from PCH. This is option only for PM2, PE5 and PE6 slots.

If you have question, please post in public forum. I do not reply PMs, so all in community can benefit the answer.

What about the ASUS Hyper M.2. x16 riser card or the ASRock Ultra Quad M.2?  Will either of these work on an EVGA x299 board?   I am reading that the ASRock is locked into their boards.   The Asus... I am getting mixed messages, works on some but not others.   Using these cards it appears you can easily RAID four (Intel) SSDs with VROC.

Would EVGA make a similar card?

you dont need optane with u.2 nor nvme ssd,

with sata ssd there is very little impact

optane itself is a grate technologu for HDD or...

get optane drive like me - 900P or 905P - its the best money can get :)

I use the ASUS Hyper M.2 x16 card and it's great so far. I use it with Samsung 960 Evo's though. Blazing fast. Yes, the ASUS Hyper M.2 x16 works with other mobos. I'm even older than x299. I'm EVGA x99 Classified.

SATA is a significant bottleneck compared to RAIDed M.2 NVME.
