Purchased an FTW3 Elite card back in December. Rock solid performance so far, but over the past month I've noticed that one of the fans on the cooler squeaks at low-to-mid RPM. This does not happen near the top end of the fan curve and going to that top end seems to resolve the problem until the fans shut off. Is this something I can fix on my own by lubricating the affected fan or will I need to replace it?

Seeing that the Elite cards have been delisted on the website, I'm not too keen to do an RMA (still under warranty).

Anyone else run into this issue with the three-fan cooler?

Thanks.

Since it's an "Elite" card it would be worth your time to call and ask if they can do a fan swap thus resulting in you keeping the same card and cooler shroud.

Hey! Was wondering if I can do this while the card is still mounted in my mobo/case? Is there a need for the fan side to be on top for this to work? I have insane OCD and don't want to have to go through removing the GPU to do this if I don't need to.

Another question though: is there any danger of leaving it squeaking? Can misaligned bearings lead to damage or permanently messing with the fan?

Prob need to do it so the barings will fall back into place.

Can you turn the whole pc upside down while doing it? I know it sounds silly but would be the same that way.

Not really feasible to turn the whole case upside down lol. I wonder if there is danger in leaving it squeaking. It's not a huge bother but I don't want to cause damage to the fan or prevent it from running optimally. The fan it is on (Power) has always been the hottest component of the card, by 3-7 degrees Celsius above the GPU or memory.

No idea.. never had a squeaky fan before on a card.

I have a 140mm case fan that came with my thermaltake case that's at the top of the case and I can hear it sometimes when the barings come out of line.. gets pretty loud and rumbly. I have to pull the pc case top off and touch the fan blades while running to knock them back in line.

Now that fan rpms isint that fast so I dont recommend doing that with the faster GPU fan.. I need to get off my lazy but and replace that fan but it only happens like maybe once a month.

Don't see any harm in doing it while the card is still mounted.

I'll give it a shot, figured it might have something to do with requiring the bearings to fall into place though.

Possibly. If you don't get any success from doing it while mounted you could always take it out.
