If you have one of these things lying around you might want to put it to use. I first tried running BOINC on Raspian Linux but after some investigation there are very little projects available. Even if I installed a different distro I would still run into the same issue. Basically Einstein, Asteroids, and SETI are the only main projects fully functional. There's a few more but the compatibility of linux arm processing just isn't viewed as important to most projects. But there is an abundance of arm processing for the android, basically everything.
You can download Lineage OS for android, KonstaKANG made his own build compatible with the raspberry PI here
http://konstakang.com/devices/rpi3/CM14.1/ It is a 64-bit build meant for the newer Pi3B and Pi3B+ boards but the builder states if you want to run 32-bit for an older Pi model "You need to remove device_tree=bcm2710-rpi-3-b.dtb (or change it to device_tree=bcm2709-rpi-2-b.dtb) from boot/config.txt"
Just burn the image to a sd card and slap it into the Pi. Lineage Android auto installs on the SD and boots, the image only takes up 4 GB after the install (2GB+ free in system), so you don't need a huge card. There is no google play installed (you can install if you want) but you can just allow untrusted sources in settings and go download the BOINC apk (I got mine here:
https://www.apk4fun.com/link/1443/a/). Install it and add the projects you want, there is an option for using an account manager like BAM but it kept getting stuck for me, so I just added mine manually. Currently I have BOINC running on SkyNet (POGS) and it's finishing a task about every 6 hours, running 4 at a time it's set to do 16 tasks a day.
Round about calculations and in my current project I'm looking at 550,000 points a year, that's not bad for a $35 board!
You can check out the stats on
POGS or
BAM
