I am strongly interested in getting a Z370 FTW for a 8700k but one thing really bothers me: I read in some review (which I can't find right now) from last year that there is a fixed AVX offset of 3. Is that true?

I don't know what that means but I'm using the 8770k on the Z370 Classified K motherboard. Let me know and I can look for you.

Thanks but I just found the answer in another review on babeltechreviews.com, the AVX offset can be set to 0 :)

AVX, AVX2 and AVX-512 (the latter only in Skylake-X and new Xeons for now) are command set extensions for vector based calculations. The AVX offset decreases the processor frequency when doing AVX intensive tasks, e.g. an offset of 3 decreases from 5GHz to 4.7GHz. That makes sense sometimes, because on AVX the CPU produces more heat and consumes more power. So when running stable on 5GHz does not mean 5GHz AVX would stay stable. For instance x264, x265 uses AVX. The downside is the other way: Just because I can run 4.7GHz AVX stable does not mean I want the CPU run on 5GHz for all other tasks. So the AVX offset can also be kind of a pitfall. Therefore it makes sense to modify it.
