So I have a i7-6700k/1070 mini ITX build I did a year and a half ago. Specifically, I have the EVGA 1070 FTW edition. Has worked wonderfully ever since I built it, no issues. The other day I was playing Assassin's Creed Origins when my display just went black and wouldn't come back on. My display was saying there was no signal, but the computer did not power down. After restarting/powering on/off, etc. I couldn't get the display to come back. Next thing to try was re-seating the GPU, no luck. Then I tried grabbing an old graphics card, some 7-8 year old Sapphire Radeon card I had laying around from an old PC. Putting that in got my display signal to come back...so my question is, is this definitive that the GPU has failed? I want to be sure I've tried everything I should before I initiate an RMA (thank god for EVGA 3 year warranty!). The Sapphire Radeon is so underpowered that it doesn't even take power from a PSU cable, it draws from the motherboard, so I'm not 100% sure I can rule out an underlying power issue. The PSU is EVGA supernova G2 650W Gold 80. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Do you have another input on your monitor or a different monitor to test and see if it was a display output issue? For instance if you were using HDMI can you try DVI or a Displayport output on the card?

I only have hdmi and vga cables lying around, but I can see if I can borrow one from someone.

I have tried different monitors though.

Do you perhaps have access to another PC that you can test your 1070 in? If it doesn't output a display signal on 2 different PCs I'd say you can safely assume the card went out on you and it's time for an RMA.

Sounds like the card has failed. Try the other vbios on your card to see if you get the same results with it. The vbios selector switch can be located just to the left of the two 8-pin power inputs on the card. To switch to the other vbios simply power down the system, unplug psu from wall, press and hold case power on button for 30 seconds, flip the vbios selector switch to the other position, plug psu back into wall & boot the system.

it seems time to open an RMA ticket and get it replaced.

I had the same thing happen to my 1080ti. It was a power issue. The cable extension I was using shorted out and actually melted and wasn't supplying enough power.

Interesting, was there noticeable melting to the cables?  Mine look totally normal as far as I can tell.
