So it all worked out in the end. Paypal somehow made a weird decision and gave me half the money. Then dell identified the scam once I contacted them and sent me an updated gift card!

Gratz. I hope Dell was able to find out who used them and go after them, although they'll probably just let it go because it's not cost effective to do anything about it, thus encouraging criminal asshats to continue being criminal asshats, much like credit card companies do nothing about rampant credit card fraud.

Agree, I highly doubt they would have done anything about it even though they know who the person is and their address etc...
