So I tried to update my Z170 Classified-K to the latest firmware today, but as the title suggests, that broke something in the bios. When I try and boot I get the C followed by 0d post codes.

Luckily there's a bios switch on this motherboard, so I'm able to continue using my computer. Problem is I'd really like to update my BIOS for the better nvme support but there's no way I'm going to risk bricking the backup bios too.

Does anyone know of a way to recover the first bios option from my current bios? I've tried running a rufus boot usb back on the first option, but since the bios never posts, that clearly didn't work.

    Easy...

#1 Move the bios selector switch to the broken bios while inside windows.
#2 Download the latest bios from the evga website, and flash the bios while inside windows.
#3 Reboot and you're all done.

This is such a useful tip that not many people know because it goes against our common intuition when things get "bricked". It should be stickied!

Tried this a few times, no luck. Still just hanging at 0d after it restarts.

[EDIT] Flashed it again after posting, and it finally got past error code 0d, but is now hanging on code 98 :(

My AOL desktop had the required motherboard, I wanted to change the previous version by updating it to Z170, me a motherboard driver which helped me to install the supported version of the driver. I was thus supported to reconfigure the motherboard and I was updated to the specific model.

Had this thread bagged months ago but just the other day yet another BIOS went FUBAR on my Z390 Dark, now on the #3 of the Tr-BIOS, 1st went months ago when I found this thread, 2nd came yesterday after many solid months of operation, WTH is going on here EVGA? Suffice it to say, your suggestion did NOT work for me and now I wonder since I'm down to one working BIOS, really starting to piss me off frankly.  See the thread below for the latest dump on 2nd BIOS...

Just flashed the #2 BIOS, same thing...nothing! Goes through a number of on/offs as usually does, then gets to 5 successive beeps, then sits at A6, no display.

What Sajin said is exactly how to do it..Either boot into Windows, then slide the BIOS switch to the desired position, then run the update.bat file..Or..Boot into BIOS, then slide the BIOS switch to the desired position, then flash the bios.bin file as described under the 'Notes' on the BIOS download page for Version 1.08 which is that latest as of now for the Z390 Dark and FTW boards.

I would reseat the removeable BIOS chip a few times..Refer to your mobo manual.

If no joy, then Contact EVGA Customer Service.

lol, yes I did so right after my post, done with these over priced boards (1st one bad, RMA'd then sold replacement, current purchased elsewhere), IMHO the 390 series is/has been fraught with issues from the start. I had a Z270 FTW prior to upgrading to this series, along with the same MSI 1080 TI GamerX 11G and it was a champ, no issues whatsoever. When I experienced this issue for the first time it was when I switched monitors from Samsung 28" 4K to my current Asus 43" 4K, BIOS craps, so move to 2nd, it works for a fairly long time, then it poos. Then upgrade BIOS to 1.08 in windows with method here, nothing on boot but 5 straight beeps. Went back to 3rd good 1.07 BIOS, upgraded 2nd to 1.08, same crap 5 beeps. Then went to restart back to #3 BIOS, now it won't boot and gives the 5 beeps, like I said I'm done and though I may sound bitter and I am, I'll get over it and will move on but EVGA will need to earn  my trust again with these high tier mobos.
