Hey all,

So come may I will be replacing my mobo, CPU, ram and hopefully a new graphics card if there are any out there in the wild. I just looked back at my invoices from when I first had this rig built and I bought the power supply back in the end of April 2011!! That makes my PSU 7 years old!!

I looked at the Corsair site and they offer 7 year warranty on their PSUs so I would assume (obviously not a guarantee) that it should last at least 7 years....

I never run my PC more then maybe 8-10 hrs a day and that's on the weekends. During the work week maybe 4-5 hrs and always shut down every night. So maybe an average of 8 hrs a day counting in weekend binges..lol

The rig is always dust free and doesn't appear to be showing any instability.

I guess my concern is should I spend more money on a new PSU (just out of paranoia)  or would it hold me out until the summer or so. I didn't really wanna shell out another 200-300 for more parts if unnecessary. I would assume the warranty of 7 years would be for a PSU that is running 24/7....

Thank for any advice
Regards,
Andrew

There is of course some risk running a PSU past its warranty point. No one can tell you what will happen to the unit or when it will fail, but I would say since it's been 7 years it's time to upgrade - but you don't have to immediately, you can safely wait until summer as you were saying.

Yeah, I wouldn't play around with a PSU... However, what would happen that couldn't have already happened after all these years? What could change? They just don't send you a new PSU? Not sure that the warranty covers other components anyway... If it takes something with it.

A Corsair AX1200 has an MTBF (see Life span for details and links) of 100,000 hours (see the Tech Specs), or 11.4 years.

Up to you, but as long as the thing works okay, I'd keep using it, myself..It might fail 5 minutes from now or 5+ years from now, who knows..Even new PSUs can be DOA, faulty or fail within a short period of time.

If you want to estimate system wattage need before buying a PSU, use the OuterVision Power Supply Calculator..If you use the EVGA Power Meter, you'll receive a 10% discount code in your email that's good in the US EVGA Store for 30 days.
