Using a cheapo 10 dollar amazon mouse. I need help with getting a new mouse. What is important in a mouse, what exactly is DPI, any model suggestions, etc.

Dots per inch (DPI) is a measurement of how sensitive a mouse is. The higher a mouse’s DPI, the farther the cursor on your screen will move when you move the mouse. A mouse with a higher DPI setting detects and reacts to smaller movements.

I have just upgraded to the Razer Lancehead Tournament Edition wired mouse.  I cannot say enough good things about the mouse

Caviat...you have to use Razer Synapse beta 3.  In the few months that I have owned this mouse...they have updated the software four times.  They are constantly working on it.  The ratings on this mouse are excellent.  It has a 16,000 dpi optical sensor and polls up to 1000 HZ.  I picked it up on sale...you can find on places like Amazon for $69.

Razer earned itself on my blacklist due to Synapse software. They force you to register an account to use it's software. You can't store profiles on the device, you have to use razer cloud, which allows them to use any information it's software collects about you.

I'd take a Logitech mouse over Razer mouse any day of the week. If for some reason you need warranty service on a Logitech mouse, keyboard or headset. They will send you a prepaid shipping label. I don't know of any other peripherals mfg that takes care of customers like that.

I use a Corsair M45. It's a simple mouse with a button to change DPI. I don't see a need to have a mouse with any extra buttons.

It kind of depends on how you grip the mouse as well as the games you play. if you rest the palm on the mouse you might feel comfortable with a tall mouse while if you like to just use fingertips to hold it then a low profile is the way to go. I would recommend going into a store and trying out demo mice and finding what you like even if it's not a gaming mouse since often you can tell if a tall mouse would feel right even using a non gaming mouse. It will feel good or it just won't.

G502 RGP spectrum is currently on sale on Amazon, great mouse. Or SteelSeries Rival 600 not bad choice either.

I use Ducky Secret mouse - case has been molded out of PBT plastic(only mouse with this plastic afaik) which never wears out like other mice where more smooth areas appear you touch the most.
Also it uses omron switches and doesn’t use any software at all - all conf is on hardware level.

I use the Razor Naga Epic Chroma which has wired and wireless modes. For years I was using wired because I couldn't be bothered to charge it, but when I unplugged the cable and ran it in wireless mode it just glides over the surface. I never realised just how much of a difference a wireless gaming mouse would make. I can't fault it.

Comfort and low weight with the top optical sensor(3360 or 3366) are the important things. Right handed mice or ambidextrous you will have to maybe go to the store try what you like better. ZY the guy the makes the vids that has a nice scale for hand sizes. He uses a ambidextrous FK version for small hands. I have Large hands, and the right handed EC2-A most accurate mouse I've used IMO, I'm buying the EC2-B asap but I like right handed mice only except the EVGA torq x5 optical. NEVER buy a laser mouse period(they have a permanent mouse acceleration people claim it or not) Dots per Inch 16000/8000, high dpi is USELESS. I'll try to find the video explaining high dpi by developers said how it caused jitters and in inaccuracies I think Logitech made it, it's long video though. Watch zy's vids measure your hand find if you like right handers or ambidextrous and he will point you in the right direction. Used to play 3200 now play 400-800 and I can kill people now. There is no right mouse just get the best you can, I love Zowie EC2-B , yes the Deathadder Chroma...., Logitech G403 . Good luck send me a tell if you have a question. expect 60$ for something good in the USA

I try to recommend people to watch Rocket Jump Ninja videos to educate themselves on selecting the right mouse. Check out a local BestBuy or Microcenter to test on mice on display to help narrow down the mice to buy.

Razer mice will stay on my blacklist, until they stop forcing you to register an account to use it's software. They need to bring back onboard memory storage for profiles, do away with using the cloud, just so they can data mine users.

I went from my 5year old Logitech G500s to the new Steel Series Rival 600 ($80) to Logitech G502 ($45) to now Logitech G403 ($46). The G403 is not perfect but it feel better to me over the Rival 600 the G502.
