Is it normal for the pressure from the clamp to dent the IHS where it clamps the CPU down?  I've built a couple of Z370 builds but have yet to remove the CPU again but for this board I did and noticed the two dents.

Maybe post a Photo of what you are asking about?
I did not have any issues installing my CPU on this Motherboard and I have no dents on my CPU IHS.
The CPU Sockets are Standard by Definition.

You can see the same dents I saw in mine here:

The OP is concerned about a dent on the top of the IHS but that is not what I'm referring to.  I'm talking about the dents on the sides of the CPU shown in those pictures.

Someone else's image I not the same as yours so it is really no help as his is Center of the CPU and yours are on the Side of your CPU.
That Image you posted could have been caused by dirt on the CPU when it was installed.
I cannot see any dent in this photo as well, that small white dot could have just been dirt on the CPU as I said.
This IS NOT The OP's CPU

I see here in this Photo I would not call that a Dent.
The Mark was made by dirt and by the Cooler that was installed on this CPU, IMO

This is also an X CPU

Thanks but someone else's image is fine, it depicts exactly what I saw on mine.  Again, I'm not talking about the middle of the CPU.  Added arrows to the area I'm talking about:

I would say that the marks are normal.
That is what that part of the CPU is for.
Is your CPU a Delided CPU?
I do not recall seeing any on mine but I really did not look.
It is not so easy to remove the cooler to look on mine sorry.

Thanks, I hope they are normal but I'm...just worried a bit I guess.

No delidding though...and yeah, I've installed dozens of CPUs over the years of different generations but haven't seen this yet.  I don't remove them all immediately though, which might be why I don't see it often, and just recently removed a 3770k and it had no markings on the side like the above picture.

I finally had a chance to remove the CPU, here is a photo of the indentation.  It shows only one side but both sides are similar:

Happened to mine when I dellided and used a all copper IHS. It has left a mark. It stays put without issues and seems to have no i'll effect. Just don't repeatedly remove and replace and it shouldn't be a issue.

While some minor surface abrasions are common those large side dents seem to indicate either the mounting wasn't done properly or there was some kind of obstruction there. I have mounted and removed several CPUs on various Z370 boards and have not seen that issue. Although I cannot speak directly of the EVGA FTW Z370 since I haven't used one yet.

I would carefully inspect the retention clamp and ensure when you're closing it there isn't anything bent or out of place. The good news is that small nick shouldn't affect the operation of your CPU in any way.

Nothing in the way, mounted properly, the clamp just feels super tight.  I have a Classified K and a FTW, both are really tight.  I have several other Z370 and Z270 boards but the clamps do not feel as tight as the EVGAs.

I'm not sure if this is by design but I would like to see if anyone else has had a chance to remove their CPU and see if the same thing happens.

I've also inspected the clamp, and it looks OK, but it could be something very minute that is difficult to detect...  I know I could not get a stock CPU cooler I pulled from an i3 to install properly on the i7 k chip.
