Hey all,

So come May I will be in the market for some upgrades. I will have $1300 to spend. I am looking at upgrading my CPU, mobo and ram currently as, although still a beast, my 2600k is starting to show its age :(

My issue is, do I wait and see what GPU prices will do and/or save up more to upgrade the GPU with the crazy prices now? Or...upgrade the CPU, mobo and ram (specifically the I7 8700k) in the hopes that GPU prices come down a bit over the next year then upgrade the GPU later on?

I know I won't see an big leap in performance from going the CPU upgrade route but I'm thinking for future proofing the CPU would be the most logical choice...

Just trying to see which one makes more sense.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I'd say upgrade the cpu, mobo & ram since you're running a 1080p 144hz monitor.

I bought the i5-8600K 6 cores unlocked, CPU is really sweet. CPU selling 234-259$ depending if on sale.
Got the 8600k CPU, Asrock Killer SLI A/C MB and 16gb Corsair DDR4 3000 ram for 525$ or so.
That would leave you Roughly 800$ for a GPU. Maybe a 1080Ti, at least a 1080, or what ever is out next.
You can sell the hardware you have now to offset or add/upgrade other parts, NVME drive.....

First, if you don't have an ssd, get one before anything else as it will make the greatest overall impact. Then I would say gpu, and then try to get a decent mobo/cpu bundle. If you don't plan on overclocking, the mobo choice is much less pivotal than it might otherwise be

That 980Ti should be able to hold you over until 11 series cards are released later this year.  In the mean time, i would do some research to narrow down the hardware you want.
