I currently have the MSI X99A Gaming Pro Carbon. Overall, it's a decent motherboard but it's hindered by a company that seems to be unwilling to support it with more recent BIOS releases (it happens with older chipsets, I know). What is making me consider swapping is the fact that eVGA has actually released updated BIOS for their X99 series to handle the Spectre/Meltdown vulnerabilities. MSI, on the other hand, refuses to offer so much as a time table as to when we should be updated.

Long story short: I am now feeling a strong sense of buyer's remorse. I "coulda/shoulda" bought eVGA from the get-go but was lured by the updated features on the MSI board.

Am I out of my mind (likely so)? Should I just be patient? Should I go eBay spelunking (since I am not yet at 100 posts here to access the Marketplace)? Should I ping eVGA to see if they have any B-Stock or refurbs that they're willing to part with (unlikely since the board isn't listed on the website anywhere)?

In short: I am not feeling an urgency to this and am merely mulling this thought over. I'm curious as to what the eVGA forum goers say to this?

(FWIW: My current CPU is the i7-6800k)

Hah thanks. I already know that they are scarce (which is a shame because I know that they are nice). :)

What about the other thoughts/questions?

I also stopped using the BIOS (2.05) with the Spectre patch.  It was a noticeable hit in performance even just doing everyday things.  Just sluggish imo.  Right after that EVGA pulled the BIOS anyway on Intels recommendation.

I just left Evga felt it was time too, well I just got a Asrock Falul1ty killer board......It's a nice board..I know the warranty  is a big issue but the way chip sets are changing so today it's not worth keeping a board and chip for more than 2or3 years if you can afford it....I can no longer afford to do that on retirement pay so my next will be AMD hate me but.....

Nice rig! I just bumped up to a single 1080 Ti FTW3, myself. Love it!

Yeah, I figured that the BIOS would bring a perf hit. Sadly, that was a widely known issue due to how Intel chose to address the issues in their original firmware update. Supposedly, the next iteration will perform better..

MSI is a horrid company for customer service, IMO. No clear plan to fix their X99 boards and their forums are full of arrogant/aggressive/trolls community reps (who aren't MSI employees). So I'm just not interested in ever owning their products again. It's a shame.

I think if it were me in your situation, I would make the switch to EVGA (if that's where you want to go) the next time you plan to upgrade.  As long as all is working fine now, why switch at this point.  Just my 2 cents...

Thanks guys - that's what I figured. It'll probably be a few years before I'm ready to invest in a new CPU or motherboard (I hung onto an I5-2600K for about 5 years). This system will probably have another 3 years' worth of life before I get serious about upgrading the core of it.
