here is the original ticket as it explains the problem:
Your Question:My current GPU has a problem. First of all, while the computer is in post, the GPU Geforce GTX logo turns off until the monitor lights up with the bios screen. (IMG_0009.JPG and IMG_0007.JPGshows the GPU with lights on while IMG_0012.JPG shows the GPU with the lights off during post.). Then, when the GPU boots into windows or ubuntu, red lines appear just before the login screen can load and ends with a black screen after a while.(IMG_0010.JPG shows the red lines just before the black screen and IMG_0011.JPG shows the black screen.) When I remove the Nvidia drivers, the system does boot successfully and will not crash, but has artifacts all over the screen as seen in IMG_0013.JPG. EVGA support ticket page says my image is too big so I added a google drive link instead.
Your Answer:Hello, I'm sorry about this issue with your graphics card. It definitely sounds like a hardware issue with the card but unfortunately we cannot assist with a replacement since the card is out of warranty at this point. If you have any further questions or comments please let us know. regards, EVGA

Do you experience the same issue when using a different display cable & output? If yes, you might want to try the baking the card in the oven to see that might help bring it back to life.

Sounds like a video card issue but have you tried another monitor cable as well?

you could test a few things like said above but '' When I remove the Nvidia drivers, the system does boot successfully and will not crash, but has artifacts all over the screen'' that can point to a defective or failed card .. I guess you could try to test your card in another capable computer like if you got a buddy with a solid gaming rig and see how it does in it ? I assume a backup card your now using is working fine and as expected ?

Your link = New accounts can not post links - helps stop Spam More data please: and my kitchen sink list -(free stuff to try) What output from Card to what input on Monitor ? @ what Hrz? What brand & model of monitor ? What version of Windows - be specific MB & CPU ? - does it have built in video (IGP) PSU ? What Nvidia driver ? (Try 373.06 -- I use these with my Titan X) Have you run DDU in safe mode with reboot ? removes drivers Have you tried a second monitor ? / borrow one if need be Have you reseated the card and tried different power cables and PSU outputs ? Looks like you have plenty of PCIe cables -- best not to use the "double output ones" Used two separate PCIe cables for power

My computer is a Gigabyte GA-X99P-SLI. There is no integrated graphics in this motherboard. Yes, I did swap cables, PCIe ports, and monitors. Monitor is a Samsung 1920x1080. Yes, I tried to change the PSU cables bit it will still not work. The PSU is a Hercules 1600 Watt. Nvidia Driver is the one downloaded from EVGA's Website. I have Windows 10 Fall creators version 1709. Same things happen in UBUNTU 16.04. I'm not sure what drivers are in Ubuntu though. Another GPU, EVGA 9800 GT works ok though.

Sajin posted "baking the card" -- google that for details Might want to examine the card for obvious damage .... you'll be taking it apart to "bake" it ---> re-flows the solder joints

Baking is your best bet. Make sure you bake the card in an over that isn't your main oven.

LOL. Who has a spare oven laying around? LOL. I would try to take the card apart, and see if the thermal paste is any good. After 3 years or more, it would need replacing. Hmmmm..... A LOT of the problems I am seeing with these 900 cards are all with X99 mobo's? (not ALL, but a goodly sum of them are). I am wondering if there is some compatibility issue with them. They were the very 1st to support usb 3.1 and M.2 drives. Just a thought....

Nope, turns out that oven baking does not make a difference also I found online that EVGA offered a pay by the hour repair service but the support tells me that they do not fix out of warranty

sorry for the late response, bit it is a recertified card and it only has a 1 year warrenty. I am on a budget with these cards.

It sounds like it is dead. There is not much a shop will be able to do without access to proprietary information and without access to replacement components.

No point in submitting a request just for it to get rejected.

I have a Titan X I am willing to sell. If you are interested, PM me. I am also in the U.S.A. As far as the card being out of warranty, and not willing to take it to a shop to pay by the hour, there isnt much else you can do. Have you taken it apart to see if the thermal paste is good? Maybe take it apart, leave everything off of it, and put it in an anti-static bag, and freeze it for a day or 2, and then let it thaw out for a couple/few days, use a hairdryer on it for a while, moving it around so as to not cause a serious heat spot, then quickly put it back together with new paste? The shrinking then unshrinking 'could' possibly make something go back to what it was, kind of like baking does (although baking is for solder points going bad). Just an idea. You never know, it could work. Shrug.

Ah, ok, I didnt see that. Do you know a place that repairs video cards? Troubleshooting whats wrong can get expensive if they dont know what they are doing. :(

Since there is no technical service manual available due to its proprietary nature, good luck! This would be perfect for a hobbyist to work on as a free project. Paying a professional to do this, I think will turn out to be quite pointless and wasteful. All anyone can do is poke around with a multimeter and oscilloscope and make educated guesses. The bill will add up quickly and there is no guarantee of a working card on the other end of that bill.
