Is it just me or has the mining difficulty gone up?

It always goes up... just go to that algorithm you are interested in and click 30 day history.

Yes there was a HUGE spike.  But I guess it doesn't help that some coins have continued to drop like a rock.

Ether has increased in difficulty probably 3-4 Epoch in the last month. Reward per block was lowered from 5ETH to 3 in Oct 2017. I'm pretty sure that GTX1060 3G will be basically near unprofitable by September at this rate. My old handmedown ether miners are making 1/3 of what they made last year and im looking to repurpose/recofigure them. I don't think i will be replacing anything anytime soon because the landscape looks saturated. Luckily for me, power is free otherwise i probably would've lost interest.

Altcoins for the most part have not followed BTC rally recently and are at very low ETH/BTC ratio...the FX rate which mining profitability depends on is not great right now.

New alt coins are moving towards extreme ASIC resistance - even GPU resistant IMO.

Since you have 1080ti, i suppose you should be watching ZEC closely since it is equihash strong correlation. The strength of ZEC and conversion to BTC is what determines your income.

3GB cards won't be able to mine ETH at all sometime in the next few months - I've seen a couple reports of "now" but the DAG file isn't quite THAT big yet.
Thank goodness the only 3GB cards I have are R9 280x - they don't work well on ETH anyway but do fairly well on equihash coins (ZEC/ZCL/ZEN and such).

It will depend on the specific card and software too - I had a couple 2GB cards mining ETH 'till about Feb 2017, when others were reporting THEIR 2GB cards couldn't mine ETH any more as early as Oct 2016....

ETH has done BETTER than Bitcoin this year - but most altcoins have been more-or-less flat vs Bitcoin or have slipped a little.

Outside of ETH, the "major" altcoins OTHER THAN the ones with new ASIC machines introduced have been pretty flat on network hashrate since around November, at most a SMALL spike in late Jan responding to the price spike - though with GPU availability getting better this month SOME of them are finally starting to see some hashrate growth again 8-(

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.
