Hi,

I'm wondering if an EVGA GeForce GTX 760 Superclocked will run a Dell P2715Q and a Dell U2715H together.

I'd like to upgrade my main monitor. I do design work, some video, no gaming.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Nope. You'll need at least a 960.

Much thanks

Would something like this fit the bill?

EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 SC GAMING, 2GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC) Graphics Card 02G-P4-6152-KR

Thanks for your help. Do you think I'd benefit from getting a version with more ram, or will that not make much difference for design work and light video editing?

Christianmagill,

I'm curious what the rest of your video editing rig is (CPU, RAM, storage?)  For video editing, these factor significantly regarding performance.

In general, a GTX 1050 (2GB GDDR) sounds like it would meet your needs for "design work, some video" with 2x 4K displays...depending upon what your CPU & system RAM are.  For example, a GTX 1050 paired with i5-8400, 8GB DDR4, and inexpensive SSD & HD combo would fit the bill for a solid "budget" video editing PC build.  Note that each 4K display (assuming you intend to run both at 4K) can typically consume ~1GB to about 1.25GB of video RAM ... so 2GB video RAM should be adequate but doesn't leave you much headroom.  If you're running displays at 1080p (and doing 1080p video editing), then 2GB should be enough.

For more of a "power" build, a 1050ti w/4GB GDDR would give you more horsepower and better performance (esp with 2x 4K displays; 2GB GPU can handle but would require swapping to system RAM more frequently, whereas 4GB will give your GPU adequate GDDR headroom without swapping).  This would again depend upon your CPU and system RAM...so for example, pairing with an i5-8600K, 16GB DDR4, and SSD & HD combo would fit the bill for a "power" video editing PC build.  This system would allow you to do 4K video editing without breaking the bank.

If you'd like a professional class video editing rig, then something along the lines of a GTX 1060 (6GB GDDR) with i7-8700 (or 8700k), with 32GB system DDR4 RAM, and NVMe SSD + large mechanical HD would fit this bill.

Lastly, I referenced 8th gen CPUs above ... but there's still plenty of horsepower available in earlier gen Intel CPUs as well ... or comparable AMD CPUs too.

Hope this helps.

Re: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 Superclocked with Dell P2715Q and U2715H? 2018/02/21 07:05:36 (permalink)
Here's my system specs

Motherboard: GA Z97X-UD5H
CPU: I7 4790k
RAM: 32GB (DDR3)
Graphics: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050TI 4GB (GV-N105TOC-4GL) - Purchased
HD: 500 EVO Samsung 500 GB SSD
Display: Dell P2715Q (4K) and a Dell U2715H (2K)

I'm running a Hackintosh system, and have been having some issues since the upgrade. I would assume my specs would be enough to handle it, but let me know what you think.

I know there have been some performance issues with Nvidia's Web Drivers for OSX.

System specs are fine.  What kind of issues are you having?

What version of Hackintosh OS are you running?  And what version of Nvidia drivers?

Also, might be a good idea to move this thread to the 10-series forum

Re: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 Superclocked with Dell P2715Q and U2715H? 2018/02/21 18:05:05 (permalink)
I'm using High Sierra 10.13.3 and Nvidia Web Drivers 378.10.10.10.25.106. I downgraded from 377.10.10.10.25.156 in an attempt to solve the issues, and they seem to happen less frequently since then.

All the issues are pretty intermittent.

  • Things will run smoothly most of the time and then other times slow down considerably under similar load.
  • A few times I've been randomly logged out and sent to the login screen.
  • At times windows can be dragged with the mouse, but can not be clicked on to activate and bring forward. Even when dragged to a new location, the application stays in the same stacking order.
  • Indesign can cause the whole screen to go black at times, often when selecting text layers.
  • Photoshop hard reboots when pressing the new "Select Object" button.
I've read that scaling in display settings can cause issues. Today I worked with the system unscaled and didn't have any issues, and even switched to scaled halfway through and haven't had any issues up to this point. Not sure if that is just a fluke.

Is there a way to move a thread, or should I start a new post?

I'm not sure how to move a thread (I know moderators can move them) ... recommend you start a new/clean post under 10-series laying out the driver issue.

The "good news" ... it's not the 1050 TI or your rig ... some of the same issues (significant lag/slow performance) have impacted folks with 10-series GTX GPUs (including 1080 TI) as well as TitanX after they installed driver 387.10.10.10.25.156.  So, you're not alone.  You've already rolled back to driver 378.10.10.10.25.106, which is more stable and doesn't have the lag/performance issues ... recommend sitting tight.  We will see if 387.10.10.10.25.158 released today will fix the performance/lag problems.

What version of Adobe apps are you running (e.g. are you running Creative Cloud 2018)?  Earlier versions of Indesign & Photoshop had/have compatibility issues with High Sierra ... Adobe CC 2018 is compatible with High Sierra.

On the random logout issue, have you tried disabling auto logout under Security & Privacy --> Advanced and Unchecking the box for the setting “Log out after… minutes of inactivity”?  High Sierra installation may have turned on this setting for you.
