Hello all! Last year I bought a shiny 980 ti FTW at a decent price and it worked like a charm for more than a year and then suddenly stopped working few days before xmas, system wouldn't boot. I wondered if I could use the RMA service since I'm not where I purchased it anymore, sent a ticket which got approved a bit later and sent the unit to EVGA facility in Germany. They were kind enough to provide me support with German Customs and finally today I got verification that a unit has been assigned to me (1070 FTW) to be shipped out in a bit. Honestly I wished for something like 1080 SC/FTW/something as some were lucky enough to get them in return (guess it was mostly in US?) but I'm happy with what I've got! So I just popped in here to say thank you to EVGA great team for their wonderful service!

If you put a decent overclock on the 1070 you will beat out the 980 Ti fairly easily. I'd say that's a fine replacement.

Nice, 1080 would be nicer but you get a new card still. Can’t be upset with that.

A 1070 FTW is an accepatble replacement for a 980 Ti in regards to the terms of the warranty. Some may get a 1080 or 1080 Ti (I highly doubt it!) based on the tier of their 980 Ti or if no other stock is available at that time. Just because some got more than a 1070 FTW doesn't make the 1070 FTW not an acceptable replacement for a 980 Ti.

Well mine was 980ti FTW which is at upper middle class of its series and a beast when it comes to overclocking. I've seen posts from quite a few people (here, Reddit, Instagram) who had the same card as mine and got 1080 FTW, or had 980ti SC (which is lower than mine) and got 1080FE or 1080 SC. I wonder if it's due to where you send your card to, US, EU, Taiwan? Please EVGA moderators here, talk to your colleagues at Europe to change it to 1080!! :)

Be happy you got a good card back. I am on my 6th, yes you read that correctly, 6th Titan X RMA, and it is starting to go out on me (after only a couple months) just like the others did. Look at it this way: You wont have the same problems you had with the 980. If you dont like it, I would be happy to trade with you? Titan X for a 1070FTW ?

ya, no standard it seems on what they send / hodge-podge on whats handy and your luck of the draw at the time you send in . thing is a 10 series don't have as much support as a 900 series card at the same prices [ MSRP] like 900 cards can suppoer down to win-XP if needed to or a 900 series can support analog / crt / VGA monitors native off the card where a 10 series cant and so on [ so its like what the heck am I paying for here an 1/2 butt card ?? ] ...lol...

Would you rather have a card that doesnt work, or one that does? Thats my issue with the Titan X, it works fine for a few weeks or a couple months, then stops working fine, and then the card is useless. Then they send me another one that works (or doesnt from the start) for a couple weeks or a couple months, then goes out on me. I would rather have a lesser card that actually works nonstop, that I dont have to send in and try to make work for months at a time. So, count yourself lucky. All they will send me is other peoples bad cards that dont work well, and wont replace it with even a lesser card. :(

and don't forget your 1070 is more then likely a referb not new first quality [though evga says they don't have new first quality just ''new'' ] as you can gather from here https://forums.evga.com/Is-this-new-or-refurbished-m2772921.aspx see now I cant trust what I get from them even from a authorized retailer . sure looks like I thought I bought a NEW card but got a recertified or something that not looking as a ''NEW first quality retail card in its true retail box '' makes that little bit of savings over the MSI card I had passed on for this now not worth it [opinion] my trust in evga has gone down a bit these days

Quoting from warranty page - "Products sent in for RMA will be repaired and returned or replaced with a thoroughly tested recertified product of equal or greater performance."
- "All products returned from EVGA's RMA department are thoroughly tested recertified products. If an RMA is necessary within 30 days of the original purchase date, a new in box OEM replacement will be sent in return if the product was purchased new-in-box, subject to availability."
Really pay attention to that last part in bold. Nowhere does the warranty say anything about replacing with something of same "value". After all a used 980 Ti's value is around $300-400 on a fair market. A 1070 performs a bit better anyway and has more VRAM, so really it is an upgrade. How can a company be profitable if everyone wants free upgrades? @DR. Death just becuase something is re-certified doesn't mean it's trash, hell I've purchased so many "re-certified" components/products over the years and haven't faced hardly any issues. Hell both my Logitech G700 Mice have been going strong for 5+ years now maybe longer..... By definition recertify is to "renew the certification of" so if someone let's say uses EVGA step up program, the card they send back in will likely be "re certified". eVGA will run it through tests, and make sure the board is functioning correctly, and re-sell or use for RMA purposes I assume. Do you expect EVGA to simply throw out perfectly working hardware? Especially given the GPU shortage, it's not a good time to get greedy with RMA's. Hoping you will get a major upgrade for free is one thing, but coming to the forums and expecting EVGA to replace a top-tier last generation product with a top tier current product really is not a fair expectation. I say this because I see so many people who try and milk every last bit of kindness out of companies like eVGA, and the longer it goes on, the more strict warranty polices will be, then next thing you know eVGA is no better then some of the lesser board partners of Nvidia.

@joeymir Wow I can't believe what I'm reading. How could you throw accusations so easily?! Who is being greedy with RMA?! If you read my first post, you can see that I've thanked EVGA for their help, even though I haven't received my replacement back yet, and they have received my card at February 2!! I still don't complain to them, cuz I know about the shortage of GPUs.
And being wishful (not oppressive or anything) about RMA is to "try and milk every last bit of kindness out of companies like eVGA"?! Wow, just wow

Sorry Alli, I should have been more specific that i wasn't directly pointing fingers at you, was only saying that for a general basis. Just see a lot of semi related threads or hear topics of this elsewhere where so many people expect eVGA to always send back something better. Anyway my sincere apologies & I do hope your new card serves you well.

not you expect something ''better'' , but kinda stinks to see a guy send in a 980 ti and get back a 1080ftw or 1080 ti for example and you got a lower end 1070 ref or sc or something .. so ya, you may feel you stuck on the short end of that stick don't you think ? how is that fair anyway . in the end I guess your fully at evga mercy on anything over declining your rma and sending your broken card back with a too bad so sad note attached .

Yeah, kinda sucks to see that we all send the same card but they get something a lot better than what we've got, but that is not against the RMA rules or even unfair. Hope this 1070FTW works better for me, and lasts quite longer!

Yeah, I hope it does too. A d, I would not knock a refurb at all. I have a refurb Zune (lol, yeah, but it still works better than my phone does), a refurb Razer mouse (this is the only refurb that went bad on me), a refurb evga video card (that still works fine today, and its been many many years at work), and various refurbed items like knives/swords, sound systems, etc Only 1 has ever actually gone out on me, the razer mouse. Well, besides what I get back from evga on my titan x's. So dont knock a refurb or '2nd' at all. You can nab a great product at a great price. Its just the luck of the draw I guess, and how you use and treat your item. ;)

Thanks mate! So far so good! GPU temp was around 45 while playing Warhammer but the backplate was like a furnace so had to change the costum fan profile to something more aggressive to keep the VRAMs cool
