No, the Watts consumed for the lower PPD output of the CPU is Not Cost Effective You'll use many more Watts with the CPU & get much less Points per day while generating more Heat ---> than with a GPU

Some rough numbers to illustrate this: Until a month or so ago I had a Super Micro quad Opteron folding with 4 6182SE's. It pulled upwards of 800 watts. It produced 300k on cherry WU's. To get 300k, I replaced that with a GTX1060, that uses about 150 watts. There are several charts out there that give data on power consumption/price/PPD output. If you wish to maximize your PPD they are a great resource.

Yep, I remember those days. Back then I was using this headless system to which i can't remember the name, but it consisted of a "control node" that acted as DHCP and handed a farm of cpu/mobos that network booted and did nothing more than fold. That's how come I have several old boards currently holding my GPU's. Old Intel x58 and AMD 880/890 boards. Still GPU fold great under Linux so I'll use them till they die.

You guys can't keep quoting high numbers for cards like the 1080ti. Most people aren't water cooling and overclocking them super high for folding. We just aren't that committed and 24/7 isn't justified for the program nor is it its intent. Not only that, but a 1080ti just isn't the mainstream and most folders are running mid range cards like the 1070 or below. So now a 2080 min or a 1080ti with max clocks running 24/7 is the standard for tier 2? That just doesn't allow time for actual gaming or productivity uses of the card (the whole point of buying 1).

One could hope EVGA would set goals based on 16 hr a day of Folding. That would give people 8 hr for other activities such as gaming. The bigger issue seems to be the many current Folders that Stop Folding as soon as they hit 4M for the month. I believe EVGA's aim was to rewarding those who Folded "daily" by giving the Bucks to help Team EVGA Folding members keep their hardware up to date. Now EVGA is trying to define "daily Folding Goals" that align with recent & current GPUs: 900 series, 10 series & 20 series 10M & 25M seems to be a very high standard for "casual" Folding members - and 2M & 4 M for year 11 was a gift Even at 500K PPD - that would make a goal of 15M per month & should be easy enough to make with 10 series GPU & hard but not impossible on a 980 GPU Folding on anything older than the 900 series ... is just not a good choice as the power consumed for the PPD produced - is a poor ratio edit for clarity: of my costs as everywhere has different electric rates my Cost of electricity is $0.0913 KWH - (that is with all fees) Total Bill / Total KWH [Not the best rate in the country; but, better than may areas in my state] I estimate my cost @ $0.50 to produce 1M Points, I spend about $5 to $6 a day for Folding

I only posted this info to show EVGA (Lee) this and that normal folder cannot do it. Why for the Buck Folder 8/16 would be best for Year 12 But this as well "The bigger issue seems to be the many current Folders that Stop Folding as soon as they hit 4M for the month." Is an issue and needs some looking into, maybe a Point Spread across the complete Month or per week. Maybe 1M Per week minimum per Member or even 4-6 WU Per Week.

Make sure you also have a Solid email address and keep it in all lower case or the case you used when you requested your passkey.
If it's the passkey you're talking about totally. I used to copy/past mine. Then when we decided to move ahead with a more serious contribution, i made a copy of my config file and just copy/paste the whole thing

Not a bad idea to put the passkey in a TXT file and save it. Makes it easy to cut and past it when setting up a new client. I recommend having a couple backup of the text file on different computers and on a USB drive. You don't want to lose that passkey.

Hmmm... I'm in my own team now. I presume 5 EVGA bucks equals $5US discount on hardware? How much would I earn with about 70Mil points per month (my current aim), or are the points capped? Not very clear...

The most you can get is the following: Year 12 (3/19 - 2/20)Points per month: EVGA bucks earned - 21,000,000: 5 EVGA Bucks (for a total of 10)
- 7,000,000: 5 EVGA Bucks
Been a good run for me but after 8 years of folding I'm retired. Have Fun
