Can be moved if necessary...

But..
*RANT ON*
When will companies just charge the extra money for the media? I'm really tired of having to download ISO's
and drivers..include the media in the price.

when I'm buying a 1000 dollar (plus) desktop or laptop? A USB stick (bootable) with windows (or a DVD)?
Just do it. :P
*RANT OFF*

I realize it probably won't happen, but man I hate not getting the media when I buy a laptop. (Just looking at things..
I currently don't have anything...so the absence of media *darth vader voice* disturbs me)

Often the operating system installation and an image of the original shipped software and drivers is included with the computer on a separate partition (often with no drive letter assigned in Windows) and all you need to do is run the manufacturer's small recovery software to initiate the process and reboot the computer into that installation procedure.

    yeah, I know..but I want the media...not a partition I can use a piece of software to put onto a DVD/USB stick.

Charge me an extra 50 to 100 bucks. I'm good...saves me time later.

    Sorry that I misunderstood.

A partition on a hard drive is not media? I believe that it is.

In computers, a storage medium is any technology (including devices and materials) used to place, keep, and retrieve data. A medium is an element used in communicating a message; on a storage medium, the "messages" - in the form of data - are suspended for use when needed. The plural form of this term is storage media. Although the term storage includes both primary storage (memory), a storage medium usually means a place to hold secondary storage such as that on a hard disk or tape.

If the drive fails, the media is gone. It’s the same reason people prefer physical copies of games over digital downloads. Some just prefer it. It is easy enough to create your own physical media, just mirror the OEM’s recovery partition to a disc or USB. Done.
