QuintLeo Keep in mind that Nvidia sells the GPUs to *3'd party manufacturers*, not to end users. Wrong again.
Yeah, technically they sell A FEW of the Founder Edition cards and the Titans direct - but the BULK of their GPU sales are not to end users.
Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding. I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

Nereus not to mention Morgan Stanley...
If I were you I wouldn't listen to Morgan Stanley regarding crypto. Or mortgages, for that matter.

Nereus Thanks JackBauer. Straight from the horse's mouth. Nvidia speaks out against rising price of GPUs due to cryptocurrency mining https://www.digitaltrends...-graphics-card-prices/ So QuintLeo, how about you apologize for calling us all morons - or are you going to tell us NVidia is wrong as well?
“For NVIDIA, gamers come first,”............ LOL!!!
Yeah ikr? Profits always come first, but they know what side their bread is buttered on - gamers are their main market and have been for years, miners are likely a temporary fad (at least in the numbers that are buying right now). That wasn't the point though. The point was that NVidia themselves know their market, and are acknowledging that the current increase in demand and shortage in supply is/was primarily due to the sudden uptick of miners buying GPUs. If anyone would know for sure about their market (outside of common sense), it's them!

The point is that Nvidia does KNOW where the bulk of their GPUs are going - other than to 3'd party manufacturers. They have NO WAY to track "miner specific" sales. They *THINK* it's about cryptocoin miners, but the actual numbers DO NOT support that belief this time around - and the facts DO in fact support that it is NOT the miners this time around AT ALL on the Nvidia side. They also have strong incentive to downplay THEIR ACTIONS that are one of the primary, and might be the ENTIRE, actual root cause of this current shortage on their cards- however justifiable those actions might be.

It is extremely sad what’s happening to both GPU and Ram prices. Unfortunately, I don’t think crypto will be going away anytime soon. I know last month looked promising for us gamers. However, the last few years have had massive sell offs during the beginning of the year and a slow recovery after. I don’t think Bitcoin will ever go back to $20k plus though. One can only hope for a “bubble” burst... Side note, you can actually track the value of crypto here: coinmarketcap.com (Bitcoin dipped below $6k earlier this week, but is on a small upswing.)

There's speculation the production has ended on the current generation Geforce, probably part of the reason the prices skyrocketed.

Interesting - I thought it had already hit other places but I suppose I was wrong. Kind of sad to see - but isn't the Asian market sorta safeish? I thought they don't recognize bitcoin there - then again they can just sell overseas.

For those arguing about who is buying out GPU's, rest assured the miners are taking their share. I think most on this forum believe that there are lots of miners with rigs in their basements, hidden from the prying eyes of their wives who are still confused by the higher than normal electric bills. But the bulk of GPU sales are made by corporations which have endeavoured into the mining realm. They purchase GPU's by the hundreds and thousands. Scalpers? Sure. But this is a very small percentage of the GPU market. More than likely too insignificant for any noticeable impact.

It's a supplier and it's available to computer businesses, not to the end user. These types of suppliers go dark and only send their lists by email, not publicly. I can buy them without paying the premium and sell them to my customers without the price hike you're seeing everyone else doing.

1070 prices got hit the hardest... 1080TIs are actually less desirable due to less price to performance.

Titan series is still way overpriced and not selling, so if you want one bad enough you can get those.

It's hard to find realistic prices in Canada. I tend to buy from B&H Photo Video. They ship to Canada and they make you pay for Customs beforehand. But then, it's hard to find realistic prices anywhere in the GPU world right now.

Make sure they weren't returned or repackaged since Best buy's return policy is very friendly and easily abused. I could see a miner return his/her GPUs or rewrap the box to make it look good as new. Just a heads up. Don't forget, at this point the next gen GPUs aren't too far down the pipeline so if you're willing, wait 3-6 months at the most or even less then that possibly.

I wonder what the pricing will be like for the new generation gear? Crossing fingers the market trends don't effect the MSRP. So far been impressed with manufactures that sell direct at better prices than the retailers...EVGA included

The next series nVidia cards will be out in April, around 2 months. nVidia stopped the production on Pascal, that's the reason it's so hard to get a hold of a nVidia card at a decent price.

Hi guys, maybe unrelated question, but if I purchase a GPU in USA and then bring it to Europe, will I be able to step-up in Europe? Kinda relevant if next series get out in April as above poster says.

Hopefully when the 20 series hits, some retailers will have things in place to curb the miner's purchasing power a little bit. (Single purchase per customer, etc.)

Would be nice, but what about bussiness's, I know I order stuff needed for bussiness from Amazon bussiness here at work and sometimes those are GPU's, they'd have to run two systems one for bussiness users and one for everyone else. Maybe Limit high end cards to one per person/company/per month or something

I get the point of it but you really have to see it from a retailer like Best Buy point of view. On the earnings call to investors saying that you sold out of the 20 series of GPU and can't keep it in stock is exciting compared to hearing the single purchase per customer has resulted in having thousands sitting at the warehouse. All it takes is AMD releasing a card that is better at mining and that inventory they could have sold out of would be sitting around not moving. While everyone can agree it sucks to not be able to buy a GPU because of miners buying them up I think we can also agree it's good that NVIDIA and AMD are seeing huge profits off of mining.
