Going to move this to General hardware

More detail about your PC would Help us help you

CPU ?
RAM ?
Chipset of MB & brand , part number ?

Brand & model number of PSU 220W

Monitor and type of connections it has - resolution ?

This is mostly a User to User support Forums

However you can call EVGA or e-mail for direct contact   https://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

I highly recommend asking your original PC Mfg if it is a name brand: Dell, HP .......

Sometimes the old MB BIOS does not support Newer GPU

Did you look at  https://www.evga.com/prod...aspx?pn=02G-P4-6338-KR

What do you need the GPU to do? Not that there are many options in the low profile category. The GT 1030 is really the only new option that EVGA has in a low profile card. The GT 730, GT 710, and GF210 are all older generation cards that are offered in low profile, but they are lower performance. The GT 1030 does recommend a 300w psu, but with only a 30w tdp it probably won't be a problem.

Thank you for moving the thread:
Specs : Gateway Intel Core i3 550 (3.20 GHz) 4 GB DDR3  (told you it's old) I'm putting a spare ssd in. And I also have some extra ram. Currently has intergrated hd graphics. Obviously not looking to put a lot of $$ into this relic.
It will be used for light gaming (nothing new, minecraft, etc) and 1080p content. So it needs to have HDMI.
The 1030 looks great (if a bit overkill $100) but now I'm concerned about this comment:
"Sometimes the old MB BIOS does not support Newer GPU "
Of the older stuff, which is best ?

I'm not sure about BIOS compatibility, but I wouln't think there would be an issue. (maybe someone else can chime in with more info) The GT 730 would be my next suggestion to save some money, but honestly the price difference isn't enough for my recommendation. EVGA does have a B-stock GT 1030 right now that is low profile and passive cooled for $80 (link below).

Thank you for all the responses thus far..  I didn't know the EVGA boards were so active.

I have the sx2851-41 with Win 10 home.
#blamb83  Thanks for that list. I'll def get something from there

,,  is the RX at the end mean b-stock, as opposed to KR ?? I'll probably get the one that #Cool GTX mentioned but it has RX at the end.

I believe the RX just means it has a 1 yr warranty. See below.

I'd also spend $40 on an i7 860 and a little more on a decent sink, 4ghz on a first gen i7 will let you take advantage of up to a 1060/980

So I ended up ordering this
(link didn't work )
EVGA GeForce GT 1030 SC, 02G-P4-6332-RX, 2GB GDDR5, Passive, Low Profile for $79
Thanks all. Will update when I get it.
off topic:  Whats the deal on the evga bucks ? So it doesn't matter how much you $$ spend ? Only referrals work ? (I bought a 1080ti about 2 months ago for different machine)
So I'd say blamb83 helped good,, now what ?

Re: Reccomend GPU for old PC 2018/02/23 15:49:22 (permalink)
Hey Folks,
Got the GPU but it didn't fit.  Totally my fault for not paying really close attention. So the only slot available is VERY close to top of very slim case. The heatsink  on EVGA GeForce GT 1030 SC, 02G-P4-6332-RX, 2GB GDDR5, Passive, Low Profile didn't let it fit that way  AND the back plate where you connect hdmi is too big. Has to be half height if that makes sense.
So is there something else that might fit ?

Re: Reccomend GPU for old PC 2018/02/23 19:29:21 (permalink)
Yeah the heat sink on the passive 1030 is big.
I would try the non-passive 1030 and looks like they have B-stock ones.
Both 1030s should come with an low profile bracket as can be seen below and below that is the non-passive GT 1030 to show height of shroud. Maybe the bracket was missing because is B-stock?

Edit:
I disagree with measurement of width of the passive 1030 being 1.5 slot is more like 2 full slots.

Are B-stock GPU's returnable ? Yeah, that heatsink was bigger than expected.

I would not know personally but looks like you should start a RMA or maybe start by contacting eVGA Technical support at 1-888-881-3842 or contact us by email at support@evga.com.

I would advise about getting a gtx 1030 SC since they are very small and withdraw only 30 watts they are also only $110. I am not sure if the motherboard will support it though.
Hope it helps.

Yes, that's it exactly.. As you can see, very little space up there where GPU would go.. RMA was approved. I don't see any B stock low profile single slot 1030,,   what else can I get that has low draw power ?
