There were once two kinds of PC gamers: those who bought prebuilt gaming rigskitted out with everything they needed to start playing, and those who took pride in building their own, more powerful machines. And that DIY crowd would often pay less for the exact same machine.
 
But those days might be over, at least for a little while. Over the last few weeks, the PC building community has struggled with widespread graphics card shortages and unprecedented price gouging. Suddenly, building your own gaming machine is prohibitively expensive -- if you can find the parts you need to build one at all.

I am sure it couldn't have anything to do with the fact that the current line of video cards are no longer being manufactured....
The leftover over-priced ones sold by scalpers making the apparent price seem high is normal at the end of every generation.
Wait a month, and then lets see if we still have a news story.

Wow! I did not know this NVIDIA is not making anymore GPU's for 10xx Cards anymore. Sad Really.

Also need to blame Cell phones & Tablets for the crazy RAM prices -- RAM shortage since Qtr 3 - 2017 & price increases of Qtr 1 - 2018

Didn't they do the RAM price fixing thing back 2011/12?  Seems like reoccurring issue with ram every few years.  As far as GPU's go I hope there is a new gen right around the corner.  It would be great if there is next gen coming in a little over a month or so.

If Nvidia really wants to help their base, they come out with GeForce Volta very soon to stick it to all the scalpers out there with their old stock of overpriced GPUs.  BOOM!

I am still suspicious about memory prices. There are only a small handful of memory manufacturers in the world and they have been busted multiple times for colluding and price-fixing. I don't believe them if they say that they are unable to meet demand. I just don't trust that they aren't purposely driving up costs again.

On top of that there just don't seem to be any actual shortages of phones or PC memory but yet they swear up and down they need to raise prices cause they can't meet demand.

When is the last time you logged into Newegg and went darn no ssds ram or phones available...

This is same scenario when floods raised hdd prices. It was few years up there (until SSDs came). Now they have some face and its called miners. Like they are 100% to blame over this.

Crypto currency is a huge improvement on regular currency as the government doesn't have control over it yet so there's no money printing.

Yup, much better to see 20% buying power swings in my currency /s. Getting paid one day, and wondering if tomorrow it is worth 20% more or 20% less. I'd rather have the government print the money and secure it,so that relatively speaking my money is worth the same today as it was yesterday so I can at least plan my finance. Granted my opinion is based on the fact that I live in the US, which has a very stable currency.
