Brand new build, how do I get it to boot for the 1st time?

Got it all assembled with GTZ 1060 Founders and I get 5 beets and D6 error. There is no onboard video so how do I even get to the BIOS for the 1st time?

Manual is worthless, and talks about 1st boot and bios messages on the screen. But what if you can't get there?

Have you tried to reseat the gpu to the motherboard? Have you tried to use the card in another pci-e slot? Have another gpu you can try other than the 1060? All coffee lake cpu's have integrated graphics. Only the evga z370 micro doesn't have the outputs needed to use integrated graphics.

if no on-board video because you have a evga z370 micro
try a different video cable and cycle power on the video display a few times after booting motherboard
---(Not use what ports a GTZ 1060 uses  or the suggested default port)--- but I like to start with HDMI
re-connect and check any video card power cable

I had to do a few power cycles and booting to see video after installing the video card but I already had working system
    that booted using internal graphics.

I had the same issue. Shut the system off and then flip the bios switch that switches between bios 1 and bios 2 once, resetting it back to bios 1. That worked for me.

Did you Plug in the Power Cable on your GTX 1060 Graphics Card?
Is the EPS 8-Pin Power Cable Plugged into the MB alone with the 24-Pin Cable?
    Do any Fans Turn On?
Press and Hold the Small Red Button on the MB as you Power on your Computer after a 5 Count let go of the Red Button.

try with the least items added to boot bios
motherboard -PS -  CPU - one stick of memory ( in the recommended slot)

    then add keyboard try again
then mouse and then the video card

for a first boot avoid wireless mouse and keyboard

It's always a bummer when you can't a new build to work properly, but I'm sure with some troubleshooting we can get that system up and running.

The D6 Post Code is basically the motherboard stating that there are no graphics output being detected. Please make sure that the display cable that is hooked up to the graphics card not the the motherboard. If the display cable is hooked up to the graphics card and you are still receiving the D6 Post Code, connect your display cable to the motherboard and the reset the CMOS. You should be able to get into BIOS then. If you are still getting the D6 post code, check your CPU socket pins. If you do get get display from the motherboard, turn your computer off, plug your display cable to the graphics card and clear the CMOS once more. Then you will be running off the graphics card's display output.

I hope it all works out!

How do I hook the display cable to the motherboard when there are no onboard video outputs?

So far, I've tried a known good HDMI cable and a displayport one. Neither worked. Keyboard and mouse are detected based on  lights on both. Light is on the GTX 1060 also (Reference Nvidia Founders).

I have 3 fans hooked up and all are on. 24 pin and 8 pin are both hooked up.

Not sure if this is applicable for this situation, but I've had issues trying to use displayport output to get to bios/uefi (meaning that there was no display output until windows booted). I know you've said you tried hdmi output so this probably doesn't matter, but thought you might want to know.

to be fair --you have never exactly stated the MB you are using.

Do you get more beeps on boot with the keyboard and mouse connected ?

You are at the point where I fall back to a very low level basic working and tested graphics card
that does not need extra power cables
-- not sure my EVGA MX400's are supported on new MB any more :-)

glad you got is up and working - I know it is a real let down when the first boot does not go as expected.

Sure beats having to use the front panel switches to key in the boot codes.
