World of Warcraft is an excellent value money wise. Loot boxes not even close. I wish Blizzard would release a new MMORPG though. I was done with WoW before the 1st expansion.

I quit WoW in the middle of BC, came back during WoTLK, stopped playing off and on over the years since. The current legion expansion is fun, but it wasn't good if you have alts. The leveling up your weapon using Artifact Points make it where you had to grind on each character.

I haven't been playing WoW in ages - Should I pick it up again?
Are new expansions essentially just grind fests again?

i had two characters over 900 ilvl when the max ilvl you could get was 925 my priest was 913 and my mage was 909 this was before tomb of sargeras raid came out (tier 19)

ugh why is MSim banned?!!!

This is one of the reasons I plan to build a new rig (the next sys reqs for WoW). Played WoW since patch 1.1.2. Sometimes got tired of it (Cataclysm exp) but ever has been fun for me.
 
I play on a guild where we're a big group of what kids call us 'grumpy coots'  (over 40) but we still give them a run for her money during Raids and pestering them with 'In ye old days...' stories.
 
Leveling a new allied one (Pally) just to get a grasp and get some free time from my Dwarf warrior (2 artifacts to lvl 79, and third -fury- around 60) Antorus HC is on 'farm mode' and wiping some on Mythic.

Aren't they compressing damage and health pools to make it not so crazy? (in the millions if not billions ATM)

Yup! And they need to compress more. Making 2.5 to 3M (and over) damage per second is a lot and bosses being on Billions (metric not american) is getting out of hand. Some guys joked some time ago about doing so much damage that it wouldn't fit on a 32bit unsigned integer and what would happen to such collosuss smash.

Really the $15 is a great value when you consider that I can spend $10 and see a single movie that is only like 90 minutes long. So if I was to like do two raids in a month it's a better value. That said it really depends on how much you play.
