Theoretically if the release date is within 3 months of my purchase of the 1080 Ti, I should be able to get a spot in line for step up on that date?

Yep, as long as the newer cards have been added to the step-up list.

I just picked up a 1080 Ti with some anticipation for the next gen cards being released within the next couple of months.
I was HOPING to use the Step up program once they're available but not really sure how that works.

I read that also!  GTC 2018 Keynote is in about 10 minutes, hopefully Jensen will drop some hints or outright tell us when the 11 series releases...

Womp womp, GTC was about AI and deep learning, not about gaming..

LOL! It’s funny how hyped people get over the key note speeches. Are people so quick to forget that Nvidia teased the gtx 10** for 2 weeks prior to launch with spoiler commercials and ads, then released images eluding to the new cards and the new cooler design prior to launch, then invited gamers to the event and announced a gaming event as well as scavenger hunts for the 10 series... they did none of this and everyone expected the same type of reveal today... why...

Hint: gamers are not big money targets.

Jensen does love repeating himself and hearing himself talk. That is for sure.

One thing to consider is the 1070Ti was a rumor with the first product shots showing up online about a week before launch. I think that shows nobody really will know for sure until the release date what will happen. NVIDIA has been really good about keeping the news locked down.

The Ti cards are typically gap fillers, not a new generation of cards. No need to hype gap fillers.

The Titan Xp was the most silent pascal release, shadowed by the 1080ti release.

The 1100 series cards will probably be out September-October of this year. The 2000 series cards will probably be released ~2036, but definitely before 2040. That's assuming they are even still using the same nomenclature that far into the future.

Those rumors sound about right. Rumored release would be about June or July (maybe later). Everything is dependent upon availability of GDDR6 memory supply.

My thoughts as well. I'm going to add a extended warranty to mine and just run it out. It plays my game maxed out anyway, American Truck Simulator.

As I mentioned before the GTX 1180 will probably be released within the next 90 days and a GTX 1180ti probably months afterwards. That's a guess I have based on past NVIDIA release behavior.

Re: Next gen cards? 2018/05/09 01:41:01 (permalink)
I don't recommend buying a card before the release of a next gen card expecting a step-up due to the fact that EVGA can change the rules of Step-up at any moment at their own discretion meaning you may not be able to step up to anything from a GTX1080ti.  Not to mention the fact next gen cards could end up not launching in the 90 day time frame from when you bought your card.  Very risky.  I believe that the peace of mind statement towards step up is quite the opposite when more than less people get caught up in having expectations that are smashed by something called an instant rebate and after shipping costs both ways I could have had the step-up card for less if I bought it from the get go.  Or for me it was the fact I could not step up to a motherboard from a graphics card when the rules never stated it could not be done.

Whelp, If you havn't already heard the news I guess all those waiting on the next gen cards to step up to might as well put your order in and step up to a 1080ti if you don't already have one. Nvidia CEO: No next-gen GeForce GPUs for a 'long time,' but G-Sync BFGDs are coming soon.

If you were hoping for a surprise GeForce launch or unveil at E3 or Computex this year, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has some bad news. While the company is aggressively moving forward with new embedded hardware, including Jetson Xavier, a new, robotics-focused development platform with a Volta Tensor Core GPU, an eight-core ARMv8.2 CPU of undetermined vintage, and what Nvidia calls a “Vision Accelerator” (a 7-way VLIW processor), that platform is intended strictly for robotics development and isn’t coming to consumer platforms. And as for a new GPU, well, that’s not in the immediate cards either.
Nvidia’s new Volta-powered Jetson Xavier.
When asked when a next-generation GeForce might tip up, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang responded with “It’s a long time from now.”

IMO, I still say we'll at least hear of a drop by September. I don't see Nvidia missing the holiday season and all the sales that could generate alone.

NVIDIA is the GPU performance king right now so they don't need to hurry with development. I still believe GDDR6 is not shipping in high enough quantities for a worldwide release of their next gen video card for consumers at this moment.

Tweaktown... really. They have been wrong repeatedly since last year and people are still quoting them for a launch that there is currently no proof of? I wouldnt hold my breath until nvidia starts teasing hardware.

Each time they got it wrong, they had sources verifying information... blah blah blah, click bait click bait click bait... they are hoping their rumors will be true. Rumors, not news.

I don't know Kram, never heard of this guy but the info hes giving pretty much sounds just like the normal details rumors that have been goin around. To be almost 30 days away from a actual store drop and all weve heard from NVidia is "not for along time" def doesn't bode well for this guys info, but hey, its gets you a bunch of clicks though doesn't it?!?!   If im wrong I will absolutely apologize to you though brotha.

No need to apologize because everything that has been posted up to this point is purely speculation and the truth is nobody knows when Nvidia will release anything but Nvidia period.
